Excellent, Verm!! Nice! Mintages aren't in the Red Book - what is the mintage of each? Does the farthing have pedigree to indicate it was traded colonial or was it purely an Irish coin? (Is there such a thing as pedigree on coins like this?) Very cool, thanks for sharing!!

Mintages on Colonials are unknown and can only be estimated. There is no evidence that the Hibernia Farthings were brought from Ireland to be used in the Colonies as money even though Irish immigrants did indeed bring them over. The Red Book will often make references to the fact that they were used in the Colonies but this is merely speculation. They could have been used in trade in the Colonies because they were very unpopular in Ireland but again, this is only speculation with no proof. This one is the DEI. GRATIA. REX. variety. Kenneth Bressett puts the number of remaining examples of the 1786 Vermont BL at 60-70 pieces. The Hibernia Farthings are quite obtainable but many will be in lower grades or corroded. Higher graded examples are scarce and desirable.

Those are really nice. This is an area of collecting that I have considered getting into but just haven't yet.
Thanks for sharing.

You'll get hooked. There is something about the look of Colonial and early Large Cent copper not to mention the incredible history associated with them ;-)

Side note - I was reading about early coppers and Red Book and NGC have completely different valuations. Indeed, Red Book seems to be on the significantly low side in some estimations! Hoodathunkit?

I like both of those. I need a Vermont Bust type to go with my landscape copper. And I think the Hibernias are very cool. Good buys!

Thanks TD! I can deal with the rim damage as scarce as the bust lefts are. One more for the Dansco :-) I'll keep my eye out for you. I'll be going to Long Beach this week. Let you know what I find. Even at a show this massive, they (Colonials) are tough to find.

You're going to Long Beach?!?!? I live close, but I have another engagement in Sonoma this weekend - I'm so bummed I can't make it - and now I'm more bummed I won't get to bump into you!
