Looks like a vice/squeeze job, but one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Think I'd lean with gothic...the "in god we trust" is mirrored, like a nickel was placed against it in a vice or placed on top and banged with a sledge hammmer...still pretty neat

Maybe someone heated up the cent a little, sandwiched it, then gave it a wack with a ball-peen hammer anyone every put 'em of RR tracks when you were a kid? we used to do that....

Haha L1011 with my luck I would put that penny on the RR tracks and it would derail

Pretty clearly looks like a case of a penny and a nickel being smashed together. The obverse of the cent was either against a vice or a hammer which is why all detail has been obliterated. Somewhere out there is a very sad looking nickel too!

lol....I doubt it would derail a train, we use to get some crazy-shaped cents though after the train ran over them

L 1011:
I still have three coins I did that with;

A 1962 Washington quarter; 1942 Mercury dime; 1961 Jefferson nickel.

At the time silver was still used at the Mint. Sure does flatten them out!
Rest in Peace
