Well just was reading the Coin World news and about the 3 new America The Beautiful coin sets. WOW the prices I think the US Mint is trying to help our national debt $ 13.00 and some change for 3 quarters come on. I love coins but with all the new stuff and numerous sets they keep coming out with I am not getting these I made my mind up I pay the government enough money at tax time to give away to other countries. Anyway made the mind up I am cutting way back on my US Mint purchases they are getting to greedy just my 2 cents. I will just try and collect the America The Beautiful P & D street coins maybe 2 sets in albums and that is it. If they every come out with the 5 ounce silver bullion coin I may collect these as they are being old at spot cost so the mint will not make a mint from them.

Are the P and D in the 3 coin sets satin finish or business strikes?
This is what will make up my mind on these.

I wonder how these are packaged. They may have future collector value if the packaging is interesting. Any thoughts?

I think I will just stick to the annual (all denomination) proof sets for now. I am still not accepting the mint sets with the satin finish coins. If I ever do accept them, they will require their own album holes, separate from the business strikes. They are, after all, a different type. I feel that the economy will eventually recover and that ATB Quarters will be no more difficult to find than the Statehood Quarters were. Worst case, I will wait a few years and buy these mint issued circulation sets at a discount.

The odds of finding these Quarters in circulation are so bad, even the Mint was motivated to issue a dedicated set of business strike coins!
The tailor-made "Dansco filler" Set, although if enough sets are opened to fill Danscos, that could be good news in the long term for unopened Circulating Coin Sets still in the O.G.P..

The "Five P's and the five D's" are only 1 of each issue for the year, which will be 5 new Parks Qtrs. per year right ? So, if I'm putting together more than one album or folder, I'd have to buy more than one of these "Sets". It's been mentioned before that it would then be cheaper to buy the "Two Roll Sets" each time.....but then you have some very expensive Qtrs. (I'm assuming I'll find 5 or 6 out of each roll that are in really good shape, then what to do with the rest of them ? ... ..) It's still a quandary for me on how to get a P and a D of each issue ( five or six of each one actually) for my albums, for my folders, for my five year old soon to be step-daughter, for my 13/14 year old Nephew, and a couple extra "just to have". I still don't know the best way to "financially" do this.... The way I see it for myself is this.... Really....I'll need 6 BU business strike D mints......and 6 BU business strike P mints of each new Parks Quarter that will be released 5 times each year for a minimum of 11 years...... Now.....how do I accomplish this ? .... ( And on a soon to be newlyweds shoestring budget no-less, AND in an economy that is killing my business and been very tough on my fiancee)

Well I just got 3 rolls of Hot Spring from my bank could have got 10 more if I wanted them. They say they will get them all, I know the State Quarters after one would be released by the mint it would be 4 to 6 weeks before my bank got them seems like the same with the ATB Quarters. I will not be around here all year though to get them always from my bank.

I think it's way too soon to say that these will be hard to find in circulation.

The "satin" finish promoted by the Mint is purely gobbledygook in order to get collectors to buy more product. Merely the coin blanks are treated differently. The coins aren't handled any differently than from a business strike, nor struck more than once. They are minted and fall into hoppers just like circulation coins. I've compared new business strikes to each of my uncirculated sets the last five years and the "circulation" coin always just looked much nicer and seemed cleaner. Occasionally, one coin might truly resemble the burnished bullion coins from 2006-08 or the "uncirculated" commemorative dollars, but generally the nickel and clad coins look dull and unattractive. I would prefer the 'pre-2005 uncirculated style of business strikes over these satin finish coins in the sets.
P.S. The satin finish 10-coin P/D set made me laugh at $21.95! For $10 more you get 18 more coins, including the 10 Golden/Presidential dollars for the year. They have some real marketing geniuses there at the Mint.
