I detest PayPal, so I'm not going to advise you on that avenue.
There's a certain amount of trust in any online transaction; the buyer hopes that the pix and descriptions you use are accurate, especially if you decide to hazard a guess as to the grade and don't provide merely a small photo and then state, "You decide."
The seller hopes that the payment arrives quickly so that he can get the item on the way. Then both parties should communicate (via e-mail) to let the other know that payment and item have arrived.
For larger amounts, I always use USPS (not drugstore) money orders; certified checks are good, although there's a small expense with either. Some kind of postal tracking (there are several) isn't a bad idea. With someone whom I've had several transactions with, a personal check works fine and usually costs nothing but postage to send, although I suggest that the seller hold the item until he's sure that the check has cleared. I don't recommend cash, but again I've sent cash in a number cases to overseas destinations and never had a problem.
Finally, it has always been my policy to send compensation no later than 24 hours (Monday-Saturday) after I've won a bid or committed to a sale. And although I no longer do ebay, I have a 100% positive feedback record intact because I informed the seller exactly what I was going to do and then did what I said I was going to do.
