It would be very interesting to see how the series unfold. Just recall the Morgan dollar back in the old day and what they called those coin..... now at 5oz it's at least 3x as big (assuming will be thicker). If they are sell as bullion then would love to find way to buy by rolls for cheap just to "roll search" them..... imagine you find a die crack in that thing (Morgan VAM collector?) any kind of errors will be "hugmongust". It would also be interesting to get MS70/PF70 out of those coins. All of these ideas in my head are very interesting but I guess the money is not!

I'll wait until silver is $5 an ounce again. May be a few years, but it'll be there. Unless...........I really, really, really like them and have to have one.

I feel the Mint has much to much products to choose from for any given year, although 2009 was a crazy, action packed " what do I buy next, to keep up on my annual list of must haves.
I did not plan to collect these either, and judging by most, many will not be buying these either, but think about this, if most do not buy these and the series does NOT last, there will be some special coins out there that no one ordered?
I will try to obtain at least the 1st one, being it is the 1st of this special, huge coin!!
I also agree, the Mint can not keep a coin minted that began back in 1986, because they admit they did not have enough planchets and then they come up with this, I believe we need to get rid of Mr Moy and place a collector friendly Director in his place....This is all just my opinion

I wonder if the Eagle situation was influenced by this new issue of 5 oz coins. They may have stated that silver was not available but I am starting to think they decided to stop the Eagle to stockpile silver supplies for this new issue.
The bullion collectors will like this series in my opinion. They were buying rolls and rolls of the eagles as investments and now they will be able to buy fewer coins with (i hope) less of a premium per 5 oz. The problem is when it gets down to the single coin market for numismatists I feel that some of the issues will get very costly. If you are not getting in on the ground floor (green monster boxes) then a popular issue could demand high prices. I can imagine that this collection is going to be really hard to keep up with!

Yeah......for those that this "bad economy" isn't affecting......a few may bite on these I think. But these will be at least 5 times the cost of the 1 oz coins I bet, so....I dunno....I just have a hard time seeing these as being a "hot ticket item" for ANY general collector. I do believe ebay, HSN, Littleton, etc., etc., will have HUGE markups on these.....no doubt about that. But a complete Set of these for the regular numismatists, will be few and far between. Most people will just get one or two of their favorites. The same folks who are buying every single 1st Spouse Gold coin in the cherry wood cases.....these may be the folks buying each of the 5 oz.'ers for a complete Set ! ... Completing "this" Set with all those 5oz coins will be mighty costly by the end of the series !

Again, the mint and Director Moy had NOTHING to do with the authorization of this coin. CONGRESS came up with the idea for this coin, they approved it, and directed the Mint to make it. Now the Mint has to try and make it whether they want to or not. They also have to make the bullion eagles in sufficient quantity to satisfy demand, and demand has been outpacing the rate the suppliers can provide the planchets. It is NOT the mints fault or Director Moy's.

Thanks for the link. I hope you're right about the $125. My feeling is the US mint is involved, therefore reasonable prices for a first time issue are minimal. My guess $175.

bherring, thank you so much for the link!! I am with you on a price estimate. $125 and I'm a buyer! $175 seems too high as a bullion investment as the issue is intended for.

bullion collectors wont pay a high premium. Kills the point of bullion. I'm betting spot plus 10%

These are not targeted for just bullion collectors, hence they will bring a higher premium.
