I am sure there are others that have the same problem I am having. It may be with different coins, like Lincoln cents or Morgan dollars. When do you have enough? I am serious. I have three complete sets, in Dansco's. Another set ready to go into the Dansco, and thinking of getting another Dansco to put a fifth set together. Also boxes of 2X2's and many rolls. I went to a coin show today, there are many coins I need to fill my other coin series, but half the coins I bought were more State Quarters. How do you make yourself stop, when you have enough? I did pick up some nice Jefferson nickels and silver Roosevelt's. Also a couple nice BU Lincolns cents (1909 vdb and 1937 S). But I stopped often to see if I could cherry pick more State Quarters. Picture added to show what I mean. Should I just box them up and not look at them for a few years?

The coin buying impulse is great in me as well. I try to concentrate on the collects of proof Jefferson nickels, Sacagawea dollars and PCGS State Quarters that I already have started. But I found myself being compelled on buying a 2008 uncirculated American Silver Eagle coin. I normally don't collect them, And I'm wondering if I can do justice to that type set. Well if I come to the conclusion I can't I feel I will be able to sell it rather easily. Some times a person needs to stand back and rethink their buying habits. Easier said than done, right Goldrush58. Signed a fellow coin hound suffering the same affliction!

I was just looking over some of my Jefferson set, and wishing I have bought some more of those. Only 30 empty holes left. Then I thought, I wonder if I could go back the the coin show tomorrow, and not buy more State Quarters. Rastatodd - I think you are seeing it the same way, with this hobby it is hard to stay focused.

I think you have enough :) I'm trying to put together a collection (P and D) from circulated rolls here in Canada. I'm about 65% done. I know some have criticized the mints both in Canada and the US for the amount of commemorative quarters made, especially with such high mintages, but I'm a sucker for them. They're now going to be distributing quarters highlighting an attraction in each state right? I can't wait until the first of those turn up here in Canada

What I find that helps me when I attend a coin show, is making up a list from top to the least priority along with the FMV pricing for each coin that I'm interested in, than I have some thing to stick to! But I sit on the computer here on the weekends and I find myself surfing ebay and whala I have purchased a ASE! I have no self control!

When I receive my two hundred and fiftieth post, I'll be lighting my collection load on the forum of items I have no interest in. That's for sure!

If it is your favorite series then you can never have enough. You may think or say that it is not your fav, but the quarters on your desk will tell a different tale if someone were to ask. Or you just have a bad case of OCD.

I stopped with the states, didn't collect the territory coins, and am not collecting the parks coins. as for my other collections, there are never enough Lincolns, Morgans or Mercury dimes.

Tim - Good question, Not sure if they are my favorite series. I do like them a lot. I think someday my 7070 album will be my favorite, but it has way to go. I have collected Lincoln cents the longest .. and I am liking how it is turning out. There is just something about being able to sort through a large amount of BU coins (with the quarters) and trying to find the very best examples that really gives me satisfaction. Metalman - Somehow I got by with only a few each of the territory quarters. But I might pick up a few more each. So far I have only picked up two Hot Springs. I am sure I will order more from the mint. I just can't help myself with the State Quarters. I had a list yesterday, but I did have some State Quarters on it. The coin show is still going on today, maybe I will just take a list with Jefferson nickels and Roosevelt dimes, and just try to get them.

Well .. I made it though a couple hours at the coin show, and did not buy anymore State Quarters. I did glance at the boxes of them .. but walked on by. I did get 11 more BU Jefferson's, I needed. Also a couple Lincoln upgrades (1920 and 1926). And a 1854 Half Dime for a empty hole in the 7070. So I guess I did ok. But I know I could have used a few more State Quarters ...

Well all depends on what makes you happy...awhile ago I took $ 2500.00 is State Quarter rolls back to the bank and cashed them in. But I have all the 1st day covers, two complete sets of silver and regular proof sets both just th State Quarter proof and regular proof 1999 - 2009. I also have a couple complete albums in State Quarters. I really do not think they will ever b worth much but will pass them onto my kids and they their kids I hope. I have slowly been sending in the silver State Quarters and getting a complete graded collection all PF69 now I think that set may be worth something in time. I have also been carried away with buying all kinds of coins but this year have scaled WAY down as I know I am getting carried away been good so far this year and trying not to get hooked on the National Park quarters waiting for the full proof sets will get two of the full proof sets this year and that is it regular and silver but also plan to get at least 3 uncirculated coin sets as they will have ALL the circulated coins made in them for 2010 and go into my albums. coins are nice we just seem to love them us collectors as long as you are not depriving your family of things an paying your bills that is up to you.

Brucec Sounds like you got into them even more than I did. I save quarter rolls until 2008, then started breaking them to make sets. I have about $1500.00 in rolls. I am down to about $250.00 in rolls. Today I am putting a set into a Dansco I bought this weekend. Then I am going to put one more set together, to give to my brother. Then I will box them up and put away, out of sight, for a few years. After talking to dealers at the coin show this weekend, there are some that are going up in price. For example: Rolls of Illinois State Quarter rolls are higher, they think because so many were colorized/and or had Obama's portrait put on them. Also Tennessee and a few others have higher roll prices which brings up the single coin price. I think higher grade, complete BU/proof sets will go up somewhat.

Well.... I like what I see there Bud ! .... And I just say that, you'll know when you've had enough of the State Quarters....it'll just be a "feeling". And then you can stop. Just by posting and merely asking and talking about it, shows that you might be getting close ! If I counted my Nephew's St. Qtr. collection......my future step-daughters....my Dads....and mine.....I've got quite a few out there too. My Dansco with Proofs is the only one that I'll have complete with Silver Proofs though.....and I'll be mighty proud of that one when it's done. (all Uncirculated Biz. strikes too....no Satins !) The folders I've done were/are really satisfying to me. I still avidly "upgrade" them when I find better examples from roll hunting. I "MAXED OUT" with the Territory Qtrs ! I even got the F.D.C.C.'s for each one ! .... The Parks Qtrs. are something that I still haven't decided on yet....of course I'll collect them....but as to "how" remains my issue. I won't do the "rolls"......but I'll "coin tube" any BU's that I come accross. I'll build the albums from Mint Sets and Proof Sets.....but the bloody Satins ! ......UGH ! Anyway.... Goldrush.....you're doing fine Bro ! When the time is right, and you've had your fill.....you'll know ! ... And then it's time to move on and focus the O.C.D. towards something else..... like the Parks Quarters ! .... .....and then it begins all over again ! Ha Ha LoL ... .. ..

I hear what your saying eaglefoot. And I agree. I like the quarter program, but in no way will I do the park quarters at the level of the State Quarters. For me, I like the satin finish. If they continue with them I think I will do a whole set in Satin and proof/silver proofs. To me it will be different then the State Quarters, where the satins came out in the middle of the series, a complete set should look nice. Then do one P and D Dansco with business strikes. Eaglefoot - I did pick up a couple more Northern Mariana quarters this past weekend, based on your other link telling how they are the lowest mintage of the series. I also got a couple American Samoa's, because when I am in the local coin shops those are the two that most don't have. At the Pensacola coin show this past weekend there were a couple people that had them.

I agree with Tim Stroud. If that is what you really enjoy collecting, than you can focus on it. If you want more variety in that, you could change it up. If you haven't already, you could try collecting high graded State Quarters, and slowly build a set of those. The possibilities are endless, uncirculated, proof, they even make gold plated and colorized (although us coin roll hunters hate em! :) If you still want to improve your other collections also, that is fine also. I myself don't really buy anything but lincoln cents when I go to shows. I also have at least 2 complete sets of State Quarters from my grandmother, and have compiled even more circulated ones. If that is what you want to collect single mindedly, than its totally up to you.
