What do you all think about online coin shops like coinland.com? Are these places generally overpriced? Are the coins quality? I'm new to this so any suggestions or opinions are welcome!

I visited Coinland.com and most of their stuff seems overpriced. $37.95 for only 3 VG-F Walking Liberty halves? $30 for a single proof Sacagawea? Also, they have a whole selection dedicated to gold-plated coins. ick

I typically only buy coin supplies from online sites, such as Wizard Coin Supply. I buy modern coins from ebay provided that the listing has clear pictures of what is offered and the seller has high feedback.

If you're new to coin collecting, start collecting coins only from circulation. Lincoln cents, Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, Commemorative quarters, Kennedy halves, Sacagawea dollars, and Presidential dollars. Go to your bank and ask for boxes of these coins...especially the half dollars! Just be sure to dump your unwanted coins at a different bank (otherwise your local bank teller will not want to order more boxes for you in the future).

Buy cheap Whitman folders for about $3 each (you can get these on sites like Wizard Coin Supply or Brent Kruegar or perhaps at a local bookstore). They make for a nice, simple presentation and it's what even the most expert coin collectors started with.
