This is my first CC coin. Where do you think it would grade at? Let me know if these pics aren't good enough. Thanks for your input. Edited by KisNap 06/25/2010 9:13 pm

the reverse is absolutely beautiful, but on the obverse it looks like pitting and a few scratches, though I'm not taking away the fact that this is still a beautiful CC!!... can you post a better pic of the obverse?

Here are some additional pics of the obverse to help you grade it. It's hard getting a good pic of it in the holder. Thanks!

Very nice MS-63. Though it might slide to MS-64 because of being a CC.

I was thinking MS64. I agree with Echizento its a slider and it will come back at MS63 for sure.

I'm pretty confident that it has never been cleaned because it's one of the CC morgans from the GSA hoard and has its certificate of authenticity.

I think it is Ms-63, there are enough marks on the devices to warrant such a grade. From best I can tell it is completely original. A nice Carson City Dollar!

Solid 63. Not better; not worse; solid 63. 1882-CC has a fascinating series of VAM's, varying stages of a single die pair. During their use, they clashed at least 4 different times and were polished at least twice. I don't know if you have the equipment to do good closeups, KisNap, but I see signs on your heavily-clashed coin that indicate in might be part of the VAM-2 series. Have a look at the series here: http://www.vamworld.com/1882-CC+VAMsIf you can do such images, we'll want to see date, mint mark, lips and the "vee" in the hair above/left of the second right star.

82_CC VAM 2 is a hit list 40 coin. so it's more desireable...I haven't the time to review your photos. just getting into town and then back out again...I do think its a VAM 2 series......only a few to chose from, but definately VAM 2 series''''''from the pictures you have shown I would think VAM 2C.. I don't see any other letter transfers.......nice vamn and nice MS63 from the bag marks to possible 64.......

I've never tried to find the VAM for a coin before so it's possible I'm incorrect, but from what I can see it seems to look close to a VAM 3B. The only difference I noticed is that my coin has a lot more die cracks than the example on the site.
