I have been trying to take a good picture of this 1864 Indian.

With a glass I can see a "L", I just can't get a good picture of it.

Are there any other die markers for this coin?

Here is a couple of pics I got so far.

Still having a lot of problem getting pictures of this coin.
Can't get the color just right, and can't hold the camera steady today.

The coin looks a little better in hand than in the picture.
The area on the obverse around "states" looks worn, or weak strike,
but in the picture it seems to pick up more of a distortion in the color and detail than it looks in hand.

That's an L as indicted by the pointed bust. A reverse pic would help in determining grade. I also have a couple of the 1864 L IHC's. I like them.

Thanks... I forgot about the pointed bust. I can see the L with a glass .. just have to hold it just right.

I will try to get some more pics of front and reverse tomorrow.

This IHC is a good candidate for cherrypicking in low grades when the L wears off. The pointed bust is always present but many collectors only look for the L.

Nice, seems to have been wiped in some manner or another, or just the lighting.

I think it is the lighting. I think I need to have a better photo set-up to do this right. But here is another pic that I think is closer to the in hand color.

Overall, I would give this a VG-08. The reverse isn't too bad, possibly F-12/15, but the obverse is pretty heavily worn. You can make out several letters in "liberty" but non are full, at least that I can see. The date is great, but "states" is very worn. The ribbon blends in with the hair. However, overall, not a bad looking coin.

I don't usually see such weak rims opposite those portrait and reverse details. Perhaps I'd grade VG8 too.
