I am lucky to get 1 proof out of about every 2500 I search.

Very nice. In what condition are they in? Does it look like a recent dump?

Nice going. Proofs are always nice but silver proofs are even better.

To answer the question the proofs did appear to be recently dumped, only hand fingerprints, and probally bg marks from being tumbled arroung in the rolling machine.

Question: I had alot of 67' kennedys that appeared to be proofs but had no mm... were these proofs not issued with a mm, or were they just polished 67's?

Sounds like the same person also dumped the 67's out of his Special Mint Sets, too! Great Find!

I am shocked how stupid people are. Why would you cut open a proof set to bring the coins to the bank. If I knew nothing about coins I would think I would know better than to cut something out of a package. I would like to think I would try to sell it.

I'll throw out another possibility. Some of this stuff we are finding is actually "stolen". This is fact. I have had some bank tellers and a coin dealer tell me this. Unfortunately, unless caught in the act no one can do anything about it.
In a twisted way it's nice that it ends up with another collector.
Good find Americana and congrats. There are 2 types of 81-S and you should check it out. Hopefully someone could help you out on the diagnosis (type II is more valuable). Check the others as well.
Peace.
