I found a dozen of the Kennedy proofs in a box about a year ago. My theory is the same as someone posted earlier - some unknowing child raided dads or grandpas coin collection for spending money. I'd hate to be him when dad or gramps finds out!

Question: I had alot of 67' kennedys that appeared to be proofs but had no mm... were these proofs not issued with a mm, or were they just polished 67's?
No proofs were issued in 1965~1967. There were Special Mint Sets instead of proofs; early strike SMS coins are proof-like. No coins dated 1965~1967 have mint marks, including the SMS strikes.

We got a '92-S in a box last night, a clad. Wasn't in bad shape, either, far as these finds go. Trouble with them is the stricter grading standards, due, principally, IMHO, not only to the fact that they weren't intended to circulate, but to the related the fact that their delicate, glass-like surfaces were never intended to withstand that circulation contact. Too bad. But they're always a pleasure to find, when you can, don't get me wrong!

I have looked at about 2,000 and found a total of 17 (i evidently found a roll with about 15 proofs in it (7 silver and a 1970d half))

Great find! I've maybe found a dozen proofs over the last 5 years. Probably about $30,000 searched or more. Very hard to come by. And yes could have been stolen- I lost a chunk of my collection and I learned later that most of it was dumped into a Coinstar machine and went back into circulation- buffalo ickels, Indian cents, halve proofs you name it, except silver is rejected by the machines.
