kind of new at this and any help would be appreciated. There is a curved indentation under RTY in LIBERTY and I was wondering if this would be a VAM and if so what type? .
I seem to be having trouble uploading image, will try again
Thanks, 1922-D. still having problems uploading image. was using win-98.. will try firefox

I will re-photograph and magnify head area in the a.m. thanks for your reply.

Thanks superdave, I chose the word indentation for lack of a better term. upon closer inspection, with the lens of a slide projector, I see that the curved line is on the surface of the coin and not indented and what appeared to be a dark curved line to the naked eye is actually rust colored. Also, most of the curved line appears to be on the surface of the coin but in one area, under the "R" I believe, it appears to be etched in the coin. If that would make a difference I can figure a way to attach the slide projector lens to my camera and re-photograph it in color. In the mesantime heres a few photos I took with a 4x loupe.

Well a few things all Morgan and Peace dollars are Vams first off. A photo would help as well as the date and mint mark.

As many will tell you I do not VAM Peace dollars well. But a larger photo of the top of the cap would help out. If it is not PMD (post mint damage) then you have a very interesting coin

There is no known 1922 VAM with a mark that prominent over the cap; it's almost certainly post-mint damage, especially if characterized as an "indentation." Anything which happened during the minting process will almost certainly be raised from the surface of the coin.
