I've just listed this set on ebay. I've also just put up several pics there. Take a peek, and let me know what you think.

Adam, LOL, told ya so! It's really a nice coin, but I feel it would be better off in the hands of a serious collector, instead of a novice, like myself. I'm just in it for the kicks, and if I happen to stumble across some rarities, along the way, so be it.

SDCoinguy, this is the 1999-S Proof close "AM", in the set. I've done my homework, and if I could buy a million of them for a penny, believe me I would, and RETIRE! LOL

Welcome to the forum. Quote: I set the reserve at $200 A lot of folks (myself included) won't bid when there is a reserve. So your set may not sell this time around.

I can certainly understand your position on bidding on items with a reserve. My decision to offer the coin was a tough one. Being new to collecting, and not all that informed, I considered myself very lucky to have even come in contact with a coin such as this, let alone own it. I also considered the fact that other collectors, such as yourselves, may have never seen one in person, or had the opportunity to own one yourselves. I weighed the pros and cons of listing it, did my homework on a reasonable price, and decided that if it were to be offered, I'd offer it for a very reasonable competitive price. Now, bear in mind that in the last 24 hrs., I've personally seen this coin sell for over $400.00, for just the slabbed penny. I don't think asking someone for $200.00, for the complete set, is all that bad. When you consider the price you pay for the penny, then subtract the money you can get for the proof quarter set, the Half dollar, the dime, and the nickel proof coins, what is it really costing you? If by some weird chance, I don't sell it, then believe me, I'd be more than happy to keep it in my possession. I'm not a big time coin dealer, like some of you are. I can't afford to take a huge *hit* and make it up on the hundreds of other coins I'm selling. I don't have hundreds of coins for sale. So here we are. Either someone else wants it bad enough to pay for it, or I get really lucky and get to keep it. Either way, I feel blessed to have possessed it.

I did a little research. RedBook 2010 values the 5pc. 1999-S Proof Quarter set at $55. They value the 1999-S Proof half at $15. They value the 1999-S Proof Roosevelt dime at $3. They value the 1999-S Proof Jefferson nickel at $3.50. Say the set sells for only $200. When you subtract the $76.50 value for the other coins, you are paying $123.50 for the penny. Red Book does not give a value for the penny, but as I said, previous auctions have fetched as little as $175, and as much as $400 plus. To me, that means a minimum profit of about 25%, and a possible maximum profit of over 300%. Thats a pretty big window for profit. Pretty good for one coin.

I'm another one who won't play the "reserve" game. If I have something to sell I start the item at my minimum and let it ride. If I look at an item that has a reserve, I skip it and move on. I don't believe in head games with bidding.
