I really love this Kennedy but I have no idea how to grade a toned coin like this. The toning sings so loudly I can't hear the rest of the story. It doesn't show but there is full mint luster on the obverse. I couldn't get a picture that showed both luster and the details too. Any help from those that are not as emotionally attached would be appreciated. You should be able to click on the pics and get the full size, but I have never posted a pic on this forum that is over sized. I would also like your opinion of the pics themselves. Thanks, all! Love the gorgeous rainbow toning on the reverse, wow! Fields mostly clean, some cheek chatter, but not bad. Can't tell if at $ o'clock on obverse after the Y is a scratch or a piece of lint. I'm not great at grading these, but it seems like it's MS63-64, maybe higher.

Mycrob, the ding after the Y on the obverse is, in fact, a ding. It looks like another coin hit it at about a 45% angle and transferred the impression of the ribbed edge. Cute little curlie-Q mark there.

I love the toning, I also see some sweet little die breaks on the reverse. It would appear the obverse is well struck, great details and full of pop, or luster, blast white looking, DC'ish, While the reverse would appear to be not as full or crisp a strike, with what could be a worn die, meaning weak details, talons, legs, feathers, leaves, etc, I would see this coin being a 63+. Also any coin in hand offers a some times completely different picture....Just my opinion...

Nice piece! Love the rainbow toning from the reverse edge. I'd have to see it at other angles and "in hand", but for as large a coin as a half dollar to have so small of flaws at such ridiculous magnification, I'd be inclined to go at least MS66, possibly MS67 if the spottiness is not so noticeable to the naked eye, as I'd expect. Any coin that's not fresh off the die will look flawed at 15X magnification. But the spottiness of the toning on the center of the reverse could work against you, though I did see a big 4 certified (don't recall which) MS68 on ebay that had rather spotty toning. Was rather surprised at the grade of that one.

The mystery deepens.... Also noticed that two photos have different background brightness/contrast levels.

Don't believe this is the same coin in both photos. The reverse looks like a clad to me while the obverse speaks for itself, silver. The dings on the neck, cheek, hair, and near the "Y" on the obverse will hold this down to no more than 65 on the 1964 coin. Of course we don't know about the reverse as I am assuming the photos are of two different coins. Nice catch Adam E.

hmmm... tought one - especially since we're not sure the Obverse and Reverse are from the same coin! If they are, I'd go MS-64 but would prefer to see some more pictures at different angles to get a better idea of the top of JFK's ear and hair.

Id say low MS range due to the marks on the cheek and wear or marks? on the hairlines
