I'm not an expert but have found a few varieties of 72 over the years.

I don't see a true dd variety with the pics supplied. Maybe you could look at pics online with the coin inhand ( if you haven't already)at the type fours. The coin doesn't seem to match the others.

Looks like a normal 1972 to me. Except for die #9 and up where the doubling is only on the tail of the two, all the doubling is fairly obvious under your magnification. I don't see it.

Master die doubling. Over half of all 1972 cents are like this one.

Chuck, I have a couple of questions.

If the doubling is on the master die, then obviously it gets passed on to the working hubs and on to the working dies. So, I assume this would be considered the "normal" design for that year. But, are there any instances where the master die is doubled, gets passed on to a working hub, then a doubled die created? Would this be considered a tripled die? Or still a doubled die? If any exist, can you point us to one? I'd like to see it.

Coins that have master die doubling are common because of the sheer number of them available. There were tripled die coins, but the hubbing of the dies were from different hubs/incorrect alignment/hub warping or hub state. They are out there but they are varieties because of the hubbings create the die to have those devices. 1961 cents also had master die doubling. Probably other years that may be something coppercoins can add to this post. But as far as master die doubling on a doubled die it could be possible but unknown now.

Thanks coop. That's interesting.

I never even thought of different hubbings before Chuck's explanation on that nickel in the other thread. As a newcomer, it would seem to me like a doubled die created from different hubs would be in higher demand because of the rarity of the events to create it vs. the old-fashioned doubled die way. Yes/No? Or indifferent? Just trying to expand my thought process.
