so I am wondering about all the reported/unreported varietes including mint marks, repunches and doubled dies. I purchased the Cherry Pickers Guide Half Cents through nickles.. and they give a very nice detailed guide to them. but, I see on other sites other varieties not listed in the book.

i have a lot of wheats that might go unchecked.

for example, 44-s, 44, 45, 45-s, 52-s, 57-d, 58-d, pretty much all the ones that are not listed in cherry pickers.

thanks

Yes, coppercoins.com is WONDERFUL - they have a very thorough listing of all kinds of errors and they rate them from 1 to 5 stars. You can search by mint mark, date, die variety, spread (North, north-west, etc...) and star rating. Here's the link:

It's a really cool site! But the one time I tried to use it, they didn't have the "weak 5" 2005 proof. =(

coppercoins.com lists only doubled dies and mintmark varieties. The Cherrypicker's Guide goes into other varieties that you can find. But, in my opinion, NOTHING beats coppercoins.com for the most comprehensive listings of doubled dies and mintmark varieties in the Lincoln Cent series.

That would be a variety. Just a low quality coin. :)

AH! So wait, it's a variety or not a variety? I thought coppercoins.com was supposed to list varieties?

Okay, right, cool! So what is everything else on that site, and why wouldn't this one be there?

Either way, sounds like I need to find this cherrypicker's guide... =)

The weak digits on a proof are a striking issue, not a die issue, so it is not classified as a die variety.

I would go through your 1958-D's for the RPM #1 - a very prominent RPM (much like the 1959-D RPM #1) that for some reason is not listed in the Cherrypicker's Guide
