It took me a while but I finally found a 1998 silver matte Kennedy half for a price I can live with. I don't need it to fill any holes in my albums so I didn't feel the need to pay too much for it. I've been low-balling bids on e-bay on a lark for about a year now and I finally got lucky. It came in today and here are some pics.

Very nice coin. I have also been wanting one of these, but would like to get a very good deal on one.

Any chance you can say ... maybe a ball park figure you got it at.

I have been looking at the two coin set, the RFK dollar and this coin, at a local coin shop they are asking $200.00. I really just want the half.

Edit - oops ... welcome to the forum!

I think I got a good deal on it at $162.00. It's a lot
more that I normally spend on a single coin but I've had my eye on it for awhile and just got lucky.

I really think the matte finish on this coin stands out and looks much nicer than the satin finish on the new mint sets. Does any one know if the 1994 and 1997 matte nickles have the same eye appeal as the Kennedy or do the fall closer to the satin finish coins

I'm not a Kennedy collector myself but I find the coin very eye appealing. Was this coin issued in a mint set back in 1998, or maybe a SMS of some sort. Enjoy your latest purchase. I know I would!

The slab denotes SMS.

Yes, this is a special matte finish version that was included in the 1998 Robert F. Kennedy two coin (this half dollar an the RFK dollar) commemorative set.

Very nice!

Well this isn't exactly what I picture when I hear the word proof Kennedy.
