This may not be anything but I have never seen or heard of these "varieties" before;

1984-D-Mint-Mark-Varieties??

1984-D-Mint-Mark-Varieties??

I put some lines in just to give myself a reference. At first I thought that the mint marks were different sizes, but I think I have changed my mind.
Is this just an example of a misplaced mint mark or are these two different varieties?

1984-D-Mint-Mark-Varieties??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Until 1990 mint marks were placed on dies by hand so they can vary in location.So the coin you posted is considered normal.

Thanks, John. I have had these two coins laying around for months. Now I can put them to bed, or at least in my bucket that goes back to the bank.

I have a 74-D that's lower but I bought that one.

I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one that thinks they're at least interesting. I haven't found any quite as low as vermontensium, but I still kept them because they were "different". I have found one tilted pretty bad like coop's.

I was pretty excited when I found the one I posted. I can see an interest in collecting them, especially the off center ones, but if there is no standard, there is nothing to judge them by. No monetary value... outside of a penny, of course.
