PMD (post mint damage) is my vote. The metal is pushed.

John - I'm having a hard time telling - is it raised?

First bote was after mint damage... but wait a minute. Some of the metal is raised, especially on the "N"... I see a line running left through the letters, that looks like a planchet flaw, and then it looks like it was "smushed down" Yes smushed is a technical term.

At first glance it does appear to be PMD.I also notice the C in cent seems to have a horn on top of it(Die chip?)and some heavy Die polishing in this particular area of this coin.Just some things I noticed but it doesn't help me in accessing whats going on here

Its some kind of die damage. I wouldnt say it was PMD because the way its coming out of the rim and its in the design. Unless someone added metal this isn't PMD if you ask me. Die damage of some kind

I also vote not PMD. the bottom of the n gives it away. looks like the die was damaged pretty bad.

Kloccwork was the first to get it right. It's die tooling damage. Could be of some modest value to an interested collector, but isn't worth much. It's not common, but not highly collectible.

I agree with Chuck and Jason, die damage that while interesting, not carrying a premium...and still an interesting find worth keeping.

What happens when there is a brokage? Do the mint workers pry off the stuck-on cent with a small screwdriver? Maybe that's what happened.
