A coin is listed as an 1878 7TF VAM 166 on ebay. The coin is not a VAM 166, but a VAM 164 (see top of 'I' in LIBERTY). I sent the seller a note to this effect, but still didn't want anyone here to be bidding on this as a VAM 166 (these sell for $5K in high AU).

It is very nice to see someone who cares about his fellow vammers in the way that you do Dave. Although I don't buy coins, I do appreciate your efforts to protect us from making mistakes. Thanks Buddy.

That is a pretty coin though, what would you estimate the actual value of the coin for sale is worth? The VAM 164?

Wheezydog,

It appears to be at least an MS63 (and attractive toning). The VAM has no premium so somewhere between $100`$125.

Here's the problem: The book excerpt illustrated in the auction shows a spiked "P" in its' description of VAM-166. That book is going to sell that coin, and it's wrong.
