Depends on if you've been looking already and to you those are better than what you've seen for that price, you did OK.

Just Carl
The 39 S I think I did okay on.
The 42 D, I think I got a little high on ... for me it will be hard to know how I did .. until I get them in hand.
Part of it is .. now I only need one more nickel to have the set complete. The 1939 D.

That's a nice looking 42D - definitely post pics when you get it.

From one Jefferson nickel collector to another, Its easy to get caught up in the bidding craze when its a coin that fills a hole in album. I have been bite by the bug myself. I think once you get those coins in hand and its everything you imagined, you'll be happy with the money you spent. They are both beautiful coins. Wish I had them in my collection! Congrats!

OMG, I like that 42 D. Now, here's what I saw immediately. Don't get too excited but does that not look like a D over horizontal D for a second there? Better check it out when it arrives. That would be a heck of a cherry pick. We can't be that lucky but you never know. I have a few 1942 D nickels like this and I am in no hurry to sell any at $42.00 so the price is fine. It looks UNC to me but give us better images when it arrives. I like it! These are typical with a good step count.
The 1939 S is a steal at that price I think. I just love those two nickels you bought. The 1939 S appears to have Variety 1 ( 1938 ) steps. These can be found about as easily as the Type 2 steps ( 1940 ) for S minted 1939 nickels. 5 full steps on this would be much more valuable than a type 2.
From these images, it looks like they are great choices. That also looks like a tasty set he is tearing apart.

Look away .... I must .... look away I went to his auctions. There are only a couple there that I would pick off but I do not need another nickel. The 50 D would be OK but there are a couple carbon spots near the rims. Believe it or not the 52 S is a pretty good strike for that year and mint with only a step and a half or so showing. I am partial to 1950 P and any 1951 dates. The rest are so so. If I had been there earlier, I would have like to see the war nicks and the 39 D and S. I guess they are gone.

Wheezydog ... I was hoping you said that too ..
I have been looking at 42 D/D's online all afternoon .. I sort of see it in one of the pics .. but not so much in the second.
I know the chances are slim .. but good to think about it
The guy I beat out has a high feedback rating .. 6000+ .. I was wondering what he saw.

I have been watching his listings for a couple days .. and have not seen the War Nickels .. Not sure if he is still going to list them .. or if they went first .. before I started watching

I don't think it's a D/D. I think I see the picture you're looking at but the "underdate" is sticking out too much to be the real D/D.
They are beautiful nickels though and I really hope you prove me wrong when you get the coins.
