On all four of the coins I put up, no one sniped. This coin was at $36 a day ago and didn't move at all. Nobody even tried to snipe it. My question is...why are people not sniping my stuff? Whenever I bid, I often get people trying to snipe the stuff I'm bidding on and actually usually lose. I'm pretty ticked off at the $36, should have been $70 at least. I want to know why, honestly.

wow thats a low price....

i feel the same way, no one EVER snipes on my auctions and someone ALWAYS snipes on the auctions that I wanna win.

Shadow,

Is there rim damage on the coin ? Or is that just the packaging you have the coin in ?
The rim looks a little uneven on the obverse top.
Nice coin, just trying to help you figure out why the low winning bid.

I could never sell on ebay. Coins you think will do well don't and garbage will do great. There is just no consistency !

No rim damage : (

I'm more concerned with the lack of snipers though, I often see coins double or triple in the last few seconds, while I rarely get that. my other lots did much better a week ago but I still did not have many snipers. This is telling me something. But I GUESS the angle makes it look more VF than EF, though in hand it seems to be a borderline VF/EF coin. Still, would have expected AT LEAST $50-60, right?

I think it's the summertime blues. Many buyers seem to go into hiding in June and don't re-surface until September. I would expect things to pick up in October like they usually do, but the economy is still dragging a lot of people down. Me included! :(

Yes, somebody got a bargain on that half for sure. It looks like a $100 coin to me. Hopefully you can make it up on a sale in September.

Happened to a $200 half as well. Sold for $70. But when I bid $150 on a $230 coin, do I win it for $100? Nope. Outbid 9 times out of 10. So I don't think its just the bidders, its gotta be something with my auctions as well.

At least I've come out ahead, but less than I normally would have. On the last batch, I made about 60%, but this one I made about 0% or -5%. What can I also do to attract more snipers? Is it my 'matter of fact' listing style that's shooting me in the foot? It feels like the hype artists are stealing all the bidders (since the average ebayer is not educated about coins, as opposed to here), and as much as I hate that, it feels as though I might have to do that to compete with them. At least to an extent. The weird thing is that there were plenty of watchers...why didn't they bid? Is 11 PM EST a horrible time to list or something? Since you still have plenty of western bidders, I didn't figure it would be THAT bad.

Overall, I got about $315 out of $390 I wanted (probably only $285 after fees) which is a pretty bad percentage, I did a lot better last time. I also had gotten much better deals on the last batch, though when I bought this half for 40 something bucks last year it seemed like a strong buy. The silver lining to all this is that I sold this stuff to pay for something I got an even better deal on. I'm considering pulling the stuff I have ending in 6 days though, because I have a feeling that I might get creamed again.

I went through my other auctions in the previous rounds. There appears to be a massive difference in the amount of bids, sniping, etc. While my auction style may be hurting me, it seems like there are other factors. I DID have snipers before, and much more bids even with worse pictures. Is 11 EST on a saturday night just the worst possible time? While this wasnt pleasant, perhaps I can figure this out. Maybe its also that late August is when people are taking their final vacations, and that its the absolute worst time.

Shadow,

As pointed out by others - a few have said (here and elsewhere) that for some reason things are rather very very slow on ebay recently specially this summer being slower than previous years and crawling at best. Even the coin shop by me is only selling supplies for the most part and dealing in bullion. Not sure if it's the economy or things are changing price wise. I as a buyer have got some great deals over the last month (20 to 30 % less than FMV) and only one of the wins got into a bidding war and yet I won paying $20 more than MS 64 prices. I think it's a hard to come by VAM (have not attributed it yet). VAM or not it's a beautiful coin. Your end time may have come into play as well.

On the flip side - high end items ($200 +) are still getting a lot of bids / maintaining their prices / going over board once in a while.

Plainsboro? - I used to live at ravens crest - worked on college parkway (PFS). Prior to that I worked at the former continental building while it was still operational / independent and used to go to the Cranbury Inn, golf course for lunch and the little "Italian" market / family shop by the rail road tracks (alley running parallel and steps away to the tracks in Cranbury) makes some awesome subs. The pizza shop in (Plainsboro plaza next to the gym) was good too and back then most of them only spoke Italian! Not sure if they are still around. Do you know anyone from PFS - accounting services side? If so drop me a note. Thanks

From a buyers point of view that was a good price on that coin & I'd have been happy to bid it up some except for a couple things. Like a lot of people my age(49) & older I'm resistant to new technology.....so I don't use a sniping program. I can tell you that if I'm up at 10PM my time I'm not home, especially on Saturday night. Combine the 2 & I don't bid on items that end after 8PM CST.....unless I make a note to myself to do so. Even then it's pretty hard to follow through because of the perception that I'll be out sniped.

You're selling a half dollar, but you missed every single search with half dollar in it. United States and especially GREAT FOR TYPE are completely worthless in your title. You also don't have silver in your title.

Silver and US Coin(s) are the #2 and #8 most searched terms respectively in the entire coin category.

That would also make sense, because I usually do have Half Dollar or at least Half in the title. A goof on my part. I'll be sure to include 'silver' as well regardless of the value.

I also checked some of my watch list that ended. I was stunned by what I saw. An 1806 Draped Bust quarter in AG/AG+ for $92? With 5 bids and no snipers? I also saw the same on many other coins. Very few were bid up last second. bobby, would you recommend I relist some of the coins I have up (ending in 3 and 5 days) if my title is poor?

Aside Bobby's pertinent comments (he caused me to alter my titling scheme a long time ago) I see absolutely nothing wrong with your auctions. Your pics are good, your descriptions accurate and your Feedback quite acceptable. I don't know if I'd bother mentioning the one Negative; it speaks for itself in your Feedback listing.

I am literally scared to death to list coins right now. I've a few I want to move, but not for another month, after summertime recreation dies down. I'm looking for the sweet spot after the end of summer and before people start thinking "Christmas."

Bought some stuff on ebay today. I really think it is just the 'end of vacation' thing. Insane prices!
