What is every-ones opinion on the "new anacs" and grading. I just sent some coins in and after waiting forever they came back with some tough grading. I love the new holders but man they were tough. I am specifically talking about morgans. I compared them to my NGC and PCGS graded ones and in almost every instance the ANACS were better. Any-one else notice this lately? Should we all start buying the new ANACS holders because right now they are going for slightly less then PCGS and NGC? Dealers what do you think? Thanks for all you time. Craig

I also received some coins back from ANACS with tough grading. I love the new holders, but I thought the grades would have been slightly better. Oh well... Every time I have sent coins in, they have been late returning them. Anyone else have this problem?

You are the only one I have heard say they LOVE the new holders. I had one and it was well I can say what it was on this forum but lets just say it wasn't up to par. I actually took it in my hands and flexed the slab and it poped open like a clam shell with no apparant ceacking or noticable markings to be seen that it was opened, I actually put another dollar coin (not even a morgan) in there and super glued it in the places it was "sealed" and you could never tell it was ever resealed. It just looked like a "mechanical error" on the insert. I have also heard the "new" ANACS is alot worse than the "old" ANACS in every way like turn around times and customer support

Yes, the new ANACS holder can be popped right open. That's a really big turn-off for me to use them. It's great since you don't need to join a collector's society to submit to them, but the holder is enough for me to stay away and join the ANA to submit to NGC. (plus, it cost me $20 for 2 years of membership-ANR is doubling everybody's membership that joins through them.)

I've heard the same about the slab but the opposite about their grading. Collectors seem to think they're being very linear on grading. This is just on coins in the new holder.

its the new holder thats so easily popped open that stops me from buying anything that is in the new slab. I may buy something in the old slab but until they work out their slab problems I will never buy a coin in there unless there is someway the owner can prove to me the slab hasn't been cracked out and another put in its place or I can see it in hand and make a full assessment of the coin before I pay for it

I love the way they look, you can see the whole coin better, but didnt mess with it to try to open it. This information is very disturbing. I wonder if ANACS is aware? As far as grading all the new coins I have sent in in the last 2 years meet or exeed most of my Pcgs and NGC morgans. Even my "old green holders" Maybe its just Morgans I don't know. Thanks for all your input.

I am sure they are aware of the problem because it is on every coin forum and information site I have ever been on with people mentioning how easy they are to crack open. The head man comes here sometimes and answers questions and is supposed to come back soon as I have heard so maybe that will be a great time to see what he has planned for the slabs because like I said with all the information out there about them he has got to be aware of it if he has internet access and reads any articles at all about their new slab

I received an email from James Taylor. Some of you may remember that we had a live Q&A session with him back in January. Well, he has asked to return for another one at the end of August/beginning of September. I will be contacting him after the ANA show. James' last visit went great and I know this one will too. You will all be able to get your answers straight from the President of ANACS.

Hi Susan, Have you asked him if he is aware of his new slabs popping open? Cisco

I have not discussed any particular item with him as I would rather that he answered the questions publicly so that all of our members can benefit. Hearing it second-hand from me will not have the same authority or impact as hearing it directly from "the man" himself.

Glad to hear it. I very much enjoyed the last one and I'm some us will have more questions now that the new ANACS slabs have hit the market for a few months.

Thanks, Susan. We moved recently and things have been hectic. Plus, we haven't sold the house we just moved from yet, so there's no coin budget to speak of as our cash flow is currently painful due to maintaining and paying for two homes. I guess talking about it is still free. :)

ANACS should ask themselves why they came up with the new look holder in the first place? Was it because it's clean and simple looking? Is it because coin collecting is exhausting itself on complications to the point where we now have collectors wondering if they're going to get arrested at the post office for mailing coins overseas? Was it because they sensed collectors want things simplified?
There are document security devices today that could not even be dreamed of in 1978 or 77 or whenever it was that ANACS first began issuing authentication certificates.
They are missing the boat. There is, IMO, a growing segment of coin collectors who want things simplified and who don't want to spend the rest of their lives playing Rent-A-Grade with slabs. They can capture this segment by issuing authentication only certificates with state of the art security devices on them.
Yes, I know that's going backwards. Playing Rent-A-Grade is going backwards too; back to fiefdom.

Excuse my newbie ignorance here, but doesn't the slab popping open defeat the whole purpose of having the coin sent to be encapsulated in the first place. If I ever decide to have this done, I will definitely do my homework.
