I'm am starting to search Lincoln rolls and I have gotten some from a local store. I would like to start doing it by the box but don't have a local bank account (I use USAA). Do most banks require you to have an accept with them to buy rolls?
Thanks

I spend 11 years in the AF. Still with the government but much better pay:)
I'm guessing I'll have to open an account but don't really want to.

I'm on my first assignment at vandenberg AFB. I'm going to missile launch school right now and in December I'm going to Minot. What did you do while in the Air Force?

I have never run into trouble asking for rolls at banks I don't have accounts at. I like the ones where they have coffee brewed for you and suckers the best but really if you keep it to like 10 dollars of pennies and then whatever else you want they usually dont give you a hard time

I agree about keeping the amount asking for to a minimum and usually, no problem. I have been roll searching for years and out of habit always ask most cashiers/tellers for any rolls of any new coins, well my family and I went to Jamaica for vacation, while at the airport in Jamaica I made a purchase and noticed in my change were 2-2010-P Roosevelt dimes, all new and asked the cashier if she could sell me some rolls, bought 2 at face value, very sweet, then once we returned while doing my choirs, went to my bank and asked for any new rolls of new coins and was told yes, only the new cents, they would not sell me the entire box, but 20-rolls at face for the 2010-P shield cents, got to love it, just keep on asking those tellers, and it never hurts to be nice! Good luck....

Cool thanks guys I guess I'll give it a shot on my days off next week!
afclassic87, "Why not Minot"! Spend my first four years there as a missile cop. Really liked it there. I was also in CE as a plumber and then a special duty assignment as a Military Traing Leader. Got out a few years and I am now a Border Patrol Agent. I'm actually thinking of trying to transfer to Minot.

i would wait untill you to minot to open an account 2 actually one at a place that has a coin counter and one that you want to pick up at. one other thing to think about is a bank that has many branches(chase, bank of america). that way when you pcs you will already have a bank in place. one other thing to try to pick up coins is try getting some at the bank on base, if you have one on base, they might not ask if your a member. we have 2 banks here on Dyess. I pick up from a few different banks then opened an acct at a bank that had several branches for a drop off that way I don't drop off at same branch everyday and annoy the tellers. just my 2 cents

Buying rolls or boxes never had them ask, but it's definitely harder to find a spot to dump them easily for free.

i have 5th3rd bank and where I live there is a chase and another small one. I went up to chase out of the blue and asked for a box of 2010 pennies (i happened to walk in as the armored truck rolled in) and they happily sold it to me. I go in there all the time and dump $80 of half dollars about every week. they dont care.
