With Christmas just around the corner, my little leather shop is doing well, so, after five years of hmming and hawing, I decided to finally buy an '09S-VDB. Kinda stoked about this one - it completes my set of Lincoln Wheat Cents. And, yes, I probably paid too much for it, and it put a big hurt on my coin collecting budget, but I've been wanting one forever, so..... This one was housed in a PCGS slab - graded F-12. With all the copies of this coin on the market, I felt better going with a slabbed example even though I don't normally buy slabbed coins. When I do, I free them from their little plastic prison, and put them in my album (tape the tab to the inside album cover). This one was no different. Bet that raised some eyebrows! But, bear in mind, I collect coins for my own personal enjoyment - never sold one, so, for me, the pleasure comes from getting a coin I don't already have, and the pleasure is doubled if it happens to be a coin that completes a set. Congrats on your acquisition. A man deserves to treat himself once in a while. And if you think you spent to much FORGET ABOUT IT!

These types of key dates will only go up in value, so hold on to it long enough and you will get you money back out of no matter how much you paid. Enjoy !

A tough coin in ANY grade and, a very nice acquisition not only for the completion of your set, but for this coin going much higher in value in the future. Congratulations!

Nice pick up, Ralph. I need that one and the 14D for my complete set, which probably won't happen to soon. Congrats..

You have done something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I too would like to complete my Lincoln set ... maybe someday soon.

Way to go! It's good to hear that you completed your set. I don't know about you but I get mixed feeling when I complete a set. It's nice to get it done, a feeling of accomplishment, but at the same time it's like "what do I do now?"

Well done! It is nice to get a set complete. For me at least, it usually involves putting a hurt on the wallet. Enjoy! And Merry Christmas.

Congrats on your purchase! It was a good one! I'm glad you bought a slabbed coin and not a raw one from ebay. LOL There's nothing wrong with cracking a slab. I've broken a few in my life. It feels good to break it, then put the coin in your bare hands and examine it.....one of my favorite things to do as a collector. Carl just broke out an SVDB a couple of weeks ago, you're in good company!

While PCGS and I would disagree on the grade, its a nice coin and looks happy in its new home. Congrats!

I feel the exact same way! Never have had a coin or any collectible slabbed & never will. Like you I have bought a few slabbed coins & cracked open the slab & taken the coin out to put into my collection.
Congratulations on the 1909 S VDB!

Absolutely nothing wrong with that The only thing will be if you try to sell it again. Some, not experienced in the diagnostics of this coin, may pass as its raw again.
