Glad I could help. The more you look at, the better you get. Time, effort, and patience. Keep it up, you will have discoveries before you know it.

While I would admit, finding a "new " discovery is not my intention, I would not mind, that said I really get some sort of thrill out of the peace and calmness achieved while doing the searching through the coins I have for the comparison of the known existing ones......Till I think I found something unknown, then the calmness, goes out the window...LOL.

Remmy is really good on Peace dollars. That is truly an art! I think Morgans are easier, I think it just comes down too what you are comfortable with

Russ, When I first started collecting, it was on a whim.. I wanted to get silver. So I asked a local dealer.... I want to collect silver what should I collect? He recommended Peace dollars. Then I started to pay attention to the details on the horrible bullion melt bucket Peace dollars I was buying. Found one of those auctions that advertised a VAM that said something like... this is VAM-X... in MS65 (it was maybe VF)this coin would be worth $8,000 and the VAM can make it 10x that much. Well... I found vamworld quickly after thinking ALL VAMs were worth 10x list. RUDE AWAKENING. LOL but It started me down the road reading... a lot of reading. Then a lot of missed picks, a lot of looking silly with questions and seeing stuff that aint/wasnt there a lot of wanting a coin to be one thing when it was anther... all the noob stuff we all go through. But Peace dollars were my first interest so that is what I went after. I wanted to know as much information about them as I could. (My Peace dollar library is no less than 10 books now) After all the reading, missed picks, BIG PICKS and such, I have been lucky on picking for a while because I have gotten better at it. (as have you) I have been lucky on discoveries, and I have been lucky to make and even meet friends who share the same interests. Few hobbies do that for people. This happens to be one of them! Yes Peace dollars are mushy, but I do love em. They are easier than many give them credit. They are just different. Not the high relief those Morgans have. (I love my Morgans too... my first was an 1884-O VAM-32A NGC64) I believe to be a successful VAMer the equation is time, effort and patience. Maybe add a thick skin too.

Remmy wrote" If you already sent it to Leroy, I hope it comes back a discovery, but if you were banking on that mark for a discovery, I do not think it will make it. Good luck! :)" Well I received the coin back from Leroy, he states it is" a VAM 1AG. Has closely spaced double clash spikes up from eagle's rt shoulder of VAM 1 AG pictured in 2006 VAM Supplement. Similar to VAM 1M double clash spikes, but your coin doesn't have the die file lines in Obv left field that 1M has. There are two heavy long diagonal bag marks with shiny tops at the double clash spikes. They are indented whereas die gouges would be raised with dull tops. Clash mark at rt of olive leaves as shown on pg 421 in VAM book". I am a little confused about the direction of his statement about the "Two heavy long diagonal bag marks with shiny tops' I really am more confused now, then before I sent the coin in!!! I really do not think these marks are bag marks, any comments?

I'm not sure about what Leroy's comments mean Mike, But this is a great thread.....for ALL of us who dabble in the VAM WORLD, its about understanding the coins we hold,,, and find, some want to get rich, but for the many of us here we enjoy the learning process and understanding of what we hold in our collections..MOST of what we have is COMMON, but there are times when we find something different and possibly new ARE YOU listening 1893-S? I have a few I need to send to Leroy as well, and one of these days I will get around to it.. NOT TO SAY LOOK WHAT I FOUND, but rather what the heck is this? and its all good, Many like me have been in and out of collecting since the sixty's, not meaning we are all knowing, but simply we have been re-kindled in our interests... and from it , me personally I have enjoyed it...I hope you all do too...

aladinslamp, I am not sure as to Mr A'S response either, I was thinking a clash, I know in an overlay things do NOT lay out, but then maybe a strike-through, NOT.... I like I said earlier, I am more confused now..... I also feel as you have so mentioned, I do not hunt, examine, research, question, comment, and seek out answers, because I am looking for the magic $$$$ coin, I do so to obtain the needed information, that will definitively make sense of just what I am seeing and comprehend the the process along the way, what an addicting "Hobby"!!!

I was thinking about the response you have from Mr A, Since I have the VAM book LOL I thought I would turn to page 412 or so.. but alas my 4th edition only goes to page 317... so much for the help there. so I am guessing, as I have not subscribed to the suppliments, that there is a page 421 something or so...however the interesting things is...If it does match (in general to VAM 1AG) and the other possibillity was 1M EXCEPT you don't have the "die markers" the the file lines.....then the only possibility in my thinking is your coin is the 1AG but at a different die production state.......now the die productions state we all have come to know as EDS MDS and LDS,,early, mid and late are not always posted examples on VW ...keeping that in mind we use the die is the die theory which puts your coin in the 1AG arena.. and the mention of depression instead of "raised area" could very well be just that PMD...as I take it... that its the tops of the questioned area, "shiny" and that the normal coin has the same features that is raised, and not shiny..and your coin is depressed or indented..probably from PMD.... Just some brain storming here...

Actually I just completed cataloging some 35+ Morgans/Peace Dollars, I have come to realize I am limited only by my knowledge and need to obtain some more reading material. I heard the supplement was out and I need to see and study it, once I receive it, now another hunt takes place, find that updated supplemented VAM literature........PS, My forth edition goes past 507 pages, If you had the coin in hand, I sent to Mr A, I believe you might think differently, but I might be wrong.......Thanks for your input...
