This is a PCGS MS63 (Secure Shield holder). It makes me a bit nervous that I'm buying any gold at this time when gold is at it's highest. I think that overall $10 Indians should maintain unless gold really tanks. The coin has some decent luster and its share of bag marks and roll friction (what looks like wear on the high points is basically rub from being with other coins). The fields are very clean. I really like this design.

this was the only one gold coin I didn't buy for the 7070 when gold was something like $700.00 an ounce, and it about killed me buying this one coin for my 7070 album because I thought of all the other coins I could have bought for that price. I am glad I did get it at around the $900 an ounce price now though. I went with a 1910 also

Although I don't own one, it's one of my favorite US coins.

Quote: I think that overall $10 Indians should maintain unless gold really tanks. I agree with you. Plus this coin is in a better grade than most, which adds numismatic value. It seems like a majority of these classic gold coins are usually found in MS62 and below due to heavy bag marks. It's a nice looking coin! Excellent choice!

Probably the photos exaggerate the bagmarks but the ones I see suggest PCGS may have loosened up a bit on gold grading. This is certainly a presentable coin (better than any I have!) but the luster grazes, bagmarks, and so-so luster suggest MS-62 max to me. Hey, maybe now would be a good time to try for an upgrade on some of my gold!

The luster is a little flashier than shown but not much. I showed this to another dealer, just prior to deciding to purchase it, who has seen a lot of gold and actually really liked the luster. He would agree with you that it's conceivable the marks could throw the coin into the 62 category but PCGS probably liked the luster and the fact the fields are so clean. Chances are you can find other coins in 63 holders that are on par or have more marks (like in the fields) than this. Of course, the large pictures don't help make the marks look any less conspicuous.

Nice lower mintage Indian Prethen. I bought mine years ago with no thought of how many were made, I figured at the time that most of the 1933's were melted so the '32 was sorta cool to have. Mine is raw and I need to work on my photography skills..lol
