1893S, Buy the big book, for 2 reasons.... 1 it is a great reference tool.... and 2 as overwhelmed as you feel now take some time too read it. It will open your eyes... In my case "eye" LOL. And will most likely give you a new awareness of what you are looking at and the why.

Oh, I thought that maybe you were a cyclops or a pirate or something of those sorts. I can kinda picture you with a thick gold earring, a parrot on your shoulder, a pegleg, and that eyepatch. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

1893, I too have been doing more and more reading on this "addicting" subject and can tell you as some here have told me, You will get the overall information you need in time and practice, do not become discouraged and be patient, you'll do fine, if this is what you want from this topic, I say that because at times, it can be very much information to easily question yourself as to exactly why you are doing this, LOL....Good luck.......PS, TwoHawks advice about reading "the big book' is a great place to start a personal knowledge base on the VAM subject, I would highly suggest you read the book, from the first page, and become familiar with the entire coining process and the PDS procedures.....Excellent tool for this type of work!!

So, in one day I'm hooked. Reminds me of 1969. I've all ready found a serious problem with a 1922D. And this is only after looking at 10 coins. I'll be at a major coin show (3 day show) in the Minneapolis area and have some professionals look at it..... I also ordered the "big book". This website has really helped me get my demon back.....Thanks to all!!

So, without being too wearing on your folks good graces I'd like to ask, because I'm going to the MOON coinshow which is a 3 day event with 120+ tables and extras this weekend.....I've been planning for some time to go whole hog on the purchase of Morgans, could you folks give me a heads up on maybe 2 coins to look for that would be easy for me to see that maybe the dealers wouldn't have noticed, if you catch my drift, As you can see the demon has its grip.....Thanks

1893S,

Click on my icon and contact me though E-bay. You currently do not have standard e-mail privileges. There are many Vams that are really neat, But in vamming many tell you to look for top 100 hot 50. I look for defects I like not just something on some list. Also I would tell you not to depend on the are scale as a value as that is no more then a SWAG most of the time.

I like broken and clashed dies myself, But you should go with what you like. There is no one size fits all here

Two coins? 1878-P VAM 84A is a clashed E coin that can be found.
1904-O VAM 4B is another very interesting variety. Both are findable and affordable.

Not to buy anything I have nothing for sale. It was so I could give you and e-mail address or you will find me on VAM world "same user name". It is much easier to e-mail you a list and photos pick up points to look for, then to post 40 coins that jump start a collection.

I sell very few Morgans in the last year I have bought over 800 and I think YTD I have sold less than 30 and have given away 14 too friends
