The breastplate edge is complete which I think is a minimum requirement for VF. I'd call this one VF-25. At any grade below AU the 1942-S is basically a bullion coin. It's an attractive coin regardless of numismatic value.
Thanks for your opinions, I appreciate it. This is my first and only walking liberty so it has a special place in my collection. This design is probably my favorite out of the 20th century coin designs, I wish modern coins were this beautiful.
I'd grade it VF details - Improperly Cleaned. The surfaces have a "washed out" look but since it's melt value coin, there's not much harm done.
Be careful with circulated coins that appear this "clean". This is not normal on anything below AU condition and in AU and above, you should note significant amounts of mint luster remaining.
F-15. I agree on the washed out appearance. Has definitely been cleaned. Good melt value coin or put it away in the safe for the next recession. IN another 6 months silver will probablyh close over $50 then you'll be in great shape.
