to me its priceless, I have been offered $10,000.00 for it but its not for sale. I have one dealer that hits me up about every other month wanting it, hoping I will change my mind. The VAM-85 in MS-63DMPL sold for 3200.00 unattributed and I believe one sold at the FUN show last year for around $4500.00 (the same guy purchased the only other two that has been found and sold one at the FUN show) Mine is still the highest graded coin of the others as both of them were MS-63DMPL so considering numismedia says a MS-63DMPL 1878 7TF is worth 450.00 and the VAM-85 sold for that much, they list a MS-64DMPL as worth $1530.00. There really is no telling what its worth being the highest graded one found so far. I keep it along with the 3 CoinWorld Magazines and copies of all the websites that has featured it in the SDB

Quote: Great pics! What do you use to photo them? At that point and time I was using a JVC 3.3 MP point and shoot camera with the model number GC-QX3HD that I paid 25 bucks for about 10 years ago on ebay. It takes very good macro shots and a few other members have purchased the same camera with similar results. You couldn't really beat it for the price to post online

Got an email saying the A. George Mallis Literary Award for outstanding article was given to Paul Gilkes for his article in CoinWorld on the VAM-85 and VAM-86 discoveries. I am glad I was able to obtain copies of each of the editions that has these articles to keep with the VAM-85 and hopefully some day the VAM-86

I am guessing it is the SSDC that votes on who receives the awards but I am not sure. I do know they are given out at the annual VAM Thing which is usually at the FUN show in Florida since its the first big show of the year. There were 3 issues with the VAM-85-86 in them. The first one was November 22,2010 with VAM-85 on the cover, the second was December 27,2010 with VAM-86 and 85 on page 5 and 20, then January 10,2011 with all varieties found throughout the 2010 year on page 18

We gotta find you an 86, then - that would put you out of reach.

I know, I am actively looking. I got outbid on a possible one the other day, I bid close to double what a 1878 7TF in MS-61DMPL should sell for and still didn't win it

Bryan, I know the history as to how you, with the experienced help from SD, and "Santa"came to you having the 85. I hope you do find the VAM 86, I would be very happy for you should you do so, however the competition, IMO, Must be insane, being one of those lookers myself, I believe there are more out there and have a hunch, someone from this Family will come to find another VAM 86, good luck to all.... PS, I just feel out there is something like an old coffee can holding silver dollars for years and the person who started storing them in the can has forgotten about or hid the can or passed and the can is just laying around waiting to be found and once found will probably be placed on the bay, or something like..........Who knows maybe another wrench altogether, a VAM 87!!!

I really doubt there will be a VAM-87 with the VAM-80 Obverse unless it was minted after the VAM-80 and before the VAM-22 because I just cant see very many having DMPL surfaces when I have the VAM-85 with DMPL and some VAM-80's with both DMPL and PL surfaces. There may be another die pairing of another Obverse or Reverse but I just can't see any other ones from this particular VAM-80 Obverse being used before the VAM-80. It has already been determined the that VAM-85 and VAM-85 was minted before the VAM-80 because the lack of details the VAM-80 has like die cracks and things with no sign of die polishing, since there are both DMPL and PL VAM-80's out there I just don't see very many VAM-85's or VAM-86's out there and find it really unlikely there was another Obverse Reverse die paired with this Obverse die in between the ones we already know. If there is another one I wouldn't be surprised if it were 1 of 1. As far as I know as of right now there has only been 3 of each VAM-85 and VAM-86 been found and there has been allot of people looking for them since NOV 2010. I say I doubt there will be any VAM-87 but about 46 years ago I am sure they were saying the same thing about finding any other B1 Reverse Morgans than was already listed. If there are any more that was minted before the ones we already know it may be the VAM-79 or VAM-70, because I have seen allot of PL's but only a few DMPL of these varieties
