I would like a few opinions since I would like to fill an Ike Dansco album.

What do you think would the best (and cheapest) way to aquire the coins to fill the album?

I have about 6 total Ike's and I do know I will have to buy the proofs but I can't seem to find ANY Ike dollars in the banks.

Opinions?
Solutions?
Ideas?

All depends on what grade you are looking for, like uncirculated or circulated.

If you want uncirculated, I would buy mint sets. They are cheap for those years,
that's how I did mine. If you just want circulated there may be members on here
that will help you out, to trade or buy, once you get enough posts.

On this site Stewart has a good link for Ike's

Check it out, it might give you some ideas on what grades or how you want to collect.

I thought I would start with a circulated set of coins to fill those spaces in the book.
Then after "finishing" ALL spaces with the proofs I would go back and re-work the circulated coin spots with uncirculated examples. Just my vision of how to get the book done.

I think Ikes are really cool (being the large traditional dollar coin size) and now I see there are several varieties that can be collected.

I would go with a Dansco that is only if they are uncirculated. I love Ike's. I think there very neat but if you go about circulated the album alone is around $15-20. I really hope this helps.

You can probably fill most of the circulated holes by searching though bulk Eisenhower dollar bins at a coin show. There are several dealers with bulk bins at the coin show I go to. Many times they are $1.25 each or five for a dollar (that's right, face value).

For the record, and for those that do not know, the Eisenhower dollar Dansco album was the first album that I completed.

Several of my local dealers sell filled Ike Dansco #8176 albums.

I just saw a filled 8176 yesterday, all BU's and Proofs.
And, it was cheaper than the individual coins and 8176 separately.

There should also be filled 8176 Dansco's for sale online.

Of course, it must be pointed out that buying a pre-filled Dancso
can't compare to the pride of filling one up yourself!

You might consider looking through mint sets. Ikes come pretty bad but in the mint sets you can usually find a decent one in ten or fifteen sets. You might even find a gem.

Check rolls if youget a chance but these usually aren't as nice and they're hard to find.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Yep, that's the way I like to do it. I want to try and round up the coins myself. My local coin shop (if you can call it LOCAL) is 90 miles away so I will be getting some of my slots filled by mail. Trips to the coin shop are few and far between.

Were some of the Mint Sets from 1971-1978 issued without the Ike dollars? I'm looking on ebay and a lot of the pictures do not show the Ike dollars.

Thanks!

Coin shows should be a way to get most of the dates you needed - I have not been to one where there weren't a good number of circulated examples available for just a tiny bit above face value. Mint sets probably make the most sense, however I have a hard time tearing apart government sets.

71' and 72' did not include the Ikes. My opinion is buy the mint sets. The only way to get the 73' is in a mint set so when you put that next to circulated coins it makes the rest look awful. 71' and 72' you just have to look for the best quality you can find.
