No good deals around here. There are a few older gentlemen who want to buy everything and are willing to pay whatever it cost. like 97' proof sets for $17 and Presidential dollars for $5 each. Silver dollars regularly go for $30(the common ones). I quit going so as not to get so aggravated. The closest thing to a good deal I got was a set of bronze state coins put out by gas stations back in the 60's-70's. I paid $2 and sold them on ebay for $35.

You should sell them coins. If they are oging to overpay why not get in on the action.

I went to a small country auction somewhere in TX about 10 years ago to waist some time and got 2 gem unc Mercury dimes for $4. Nobody else even bothered to bid. One is an MS64 1941 and the other is a MS65 1942D with FSB. Know the value of the coins you are bidding on or don't bid!

On some occasions I get lucky on the auction circuit, but deals are getting harder to come by these days with the "It's old so it has gotta be worth a bunch of money" mentality that has come to be with the State Quarter craze and the metals boom. The wife and I did hit on a straight up coin and currency auction last December where only four bidders registered. We cleaned up on that one. And I picked up a 1908 $2.50 gold Indian back in November last year for $135+10% BP. Estate sales are nonexistent here, everything goes to the auctioneers to be liquidated.

At 1 estate sale I made out like a bandit, there was only a couple people interested in coins, so they went cheap. At another family members were paying ridiculous prices just to keep family items in the family. I'd say say its basically hit or miss, either its gonna be a good day or a bad day.

I tried and it seems that the same old guys (ebaygeezers) that BLUEZONE encountered were here and doing the same. Years ago it was good but not anymore and are now way overpriced.

The most recent auction I went to I got a Seated Liberty dime and Half Dime for $6 each. Auctions are definitely a good place to try (no guarantee) to get some nice stuff for a lower than usual price. However, it is a bit sad to see people buying around a dozen Ikes for $7 each.

I went to an auction a couple years ago and wasn't buying coins. However I did get a box of misc military stuff because that's my other hobby. When I emptied the box, underneath the flap of the box was a little brown envelope. Inside was a colonial fugio cent. I don't have pictures at the moment but my local coin dealer has it and is taking it to Baltimore to get authenticated and graded. When I get it back I will post pics on the classic coin forum.
