I just received a NEUTRAL feedback on a 1917-S nickel I sold, ruining my otherwise pretty stellar rating. (An ORIGINAL date nickel, too - NOT an "acid dated" nickel.) The buyer said: "I'm not convinced it is a 1917S - almost no marking makes it impossible to know"

What do you think about this? Please take a look at my photos in the listing. Why would someone bid on this and then say they're not convinced...? Comments welcome.

I'm convinced it's a 1917, and the S leaves no doubt. But I guess that doesn't really help you any. Yes, it's a worn date, but it's really the 19 that's worn down far more than the 17.

Why don't you send him a followup message to see why he might think it's not a 17S?

ebay attracts all kinds. Your auction looks fine to me and pics don't get much better than that.

I got this nonsense before, and it's frustrating. I once had someone from the Bronx return a 6 pc. lot of old Philippine pesos. He pulled the ol' switcheroo on 3 of them. But yes, the positioning of that date is spot-on, as well as the mm looking genuine.
@#$%^& nut.

ya gotta love ebay.....NOT!!
There is no doubt in my mind, that IS a 1917-S and I'd love to have it in my collection if the buyer doesn't want it.

Your photos are outstanding. No one should be able to say they can not see what they are bidding on with photos like that.

I contacted and asked him NICELY (hard for me, sometimes) if he would change the feedback to POSITIVE if I gave him a full refund and let him KEEP the coin at no charge. We'll see what happens.

There is no question in my mind that is a 17S. I have a few like that.

This is what I hate about EBAY- there is virtually no protection for the seller. You basically are going to let him keep the coin, swallow the loss in exchange for him to change his feedback to positive. That's very noble of you, but makes me seething mad that a buyer can get away with this. What's to stop him/her from doing this repeatedly with others? Block him from bidding on your future auctions and spread the word!

Can't tell if there will be any pattern- he's a newbie and has not left feedback for anyone else yet. They should make a rule that newbies cannot leave neutral or negative feedback, or maybe a rule that such feedback cannot be left without evidence they tried to contact the seller to work it out.

I think this is a case of an inexperienced ebay'er not realizing that a neutral has an impact on a seller. He only has 5 feedback.

I don't know what he was expecting as you provided pictures that could not have been any clearer.

I don't think this hurts your rep - if I saw this neutral, I would immediately discount it as a non-issue. I don't know what kind of impact it has from an ebay perspective, however.

There is no doubt that is a 1917-S. If a person cannot see that, they should try finding a new hobby

Add another one to the heaping stinking pile of blocked bidders...

He may be a "newbie", but his ebay profile says he's been an ebay member since December of 2005...

Just some clown wanting a discount or freebie...wouldn't mind having (PM me) his user name so I can block him before he gets me.

Yup, just added them to my blocked bidder list too. What a nut. I don't see how that coin could be anything other than a 17-S. Those pics leave absolutely no question in my mind as to what I'd be receiving in the mail if I were the buyer.

You've got an outstanding feedback profile and I'm certain that comment will have no impact on your sales. Before you know it, that comment will be buried in a sea of green.

If people actually read feedback, then they wouldn't keep buying from clowns like numismaticbureau or aboncom.
