The wife and I went to the Wayne County Coin Club annual coin show today. We got there kind of late and some of the dealers had already packed up and gone. But we did make some good buys/trades. I picked up the following 1960 LMC sm date BU $3.50 1960d LMC sm date BU 35 cents 1968s LMC BU 35 cents 1969s LMC proof for $1 1961 Franklin half proof $9.00 1935 Peace dollar VF-XF range $20 Traded 4 1964 extra Kennedy halves I got at the bank recently at face value for 20 average circulated Mercs with dates ranging 1925-1945. The wife was in search of a 2000 1oz Silver Panda but had no luck with that so she settled on 3 1oz Australian Lunar coins at $27 each and 3 1/2oz Lunars at $13 each. She also picked up a 2007w Satin Finnish ASE graded MS70 by ANACS for $65. I am glad I was not going to try and sell any silver because these guys were low balling their offer at 14x face for 90% and 4.25x face for 40%. I'll try and get up some pics after work tomorrow as it is getting a little late to try now. Edited by Tim Stroud 11/08/2010 5:48 pm

Sounds like a good day. I take my wife along too - she keeps me from spending too much and her eyes are a bit better than mine so she helps selecting the best choices.

There are many differences in opinions on when to go to a coin show, flea market or any place where dealers have to do set ups. Unlike a regular store they must unpack, set up, then repack everything not sold. One theory is to get there early while they are setting up so you can get the best choices on anything. The other one is get there near the end and if sales were not to good that day and lots of stuff to put away, dealers may want to make some great deals. Most Jewesh people know there is an old Jewesh saying that you MUST make a sale to the first person that you deal with. If you do, great day. If not, bad luck all day. I've had some actually grab my arm and plead with me to buy something, anything due to that so called old wives tale. Difficult to really know about dealers at coin shows though.

How was the proof selection, Tim? I'm going to a show on Saturday and LMC proofs are on my list? A buck sounds pretty good.

Well here are the pics. Quote: I take my wife along too - she keeps me from spending too much I do not know why the 1/2oz rounds were priced like that. Wish they had more, she bought all they the 1/2oz they had. The proof selection was pretty good, that was all one guy was selling, graded proofs. It would appear that I was duped! When I asked her for the Lunars and the ASE there was a few more than she admitted to Did I mention that I was duped? The MS70 ASE somehow was joined by an MS69 Panda Ben Abe, the proof is a little ugly with a few carbon spots, but he will fill a hole until later. 20 Mercs Really bad pic of the 35 Peace

Quote: Nice pics! May I ask what your process is? I use a Sony a350 with an 18-70mm macro/zoom lens, a 10x micro add-on along with a +1 and a +2 micro add-on. Lighting is natural sunlight. I prefer to shoot on an overcast day because the pics come out with more brilliant color and no glare at all. The bad Peace dollar pic is from the flash going off, I don't know why it did it only on the Peace. the orange and gray/blue you see on the Panda reverse is actually the reflection of the setting sun. The close ups are cropped and paired up using photoscape. I have a lot more pics of recent acquisitions I will get up on the forum as soon as I get the time. Hopefully this weekend, These are pocket change finds, cash drawer finds from the wife's hardware store, and some lots from auctions where I got very lucky, some of which are in transit to me right now. I just hope the next shipment is the real thing.

All really nice photos. You obviously have a large variety of wants on your coin list. That is my problem too. I go to a coin show with 2 pages of what I need, want, would like, etc. My list has almost every type of coin ever made on it.

It's nice that the pair of you have a common interest and if she duped you about the number of purchases she made this time then she can hardly complain if you happen to do the same at the next show?

Tim, Thanks for sharing the pics. I have a Sony A350 also, but I don't have the Macro Lens. It does alright for full coin shots but I can't get close enough to shoot RPM's and doubled dies. Would you mind if asked why they price range is for those add ons? I've checked around some local stores but they don't seem to carry the additional lenses. Thanks

This is what I use on my 18-70mm lens. http://cgi.ebay.com/55mm-Close-Up-M...em19be9d4411Got the set from these guys last year. I usually use a combination of the 4 lenses such as the +10 coupled with the 4x and 1x for cent shots and the +10 with 2x for larger coin.
