I saw this set on ebay a couple days ago and thought it was a good deal ($56.00 shipped). I have a couple of sets like this and don't really like breaking them open. but... I really want to put the Jefferson dollar in my 7070 type set. It will go along with me swapping out some of my commemorative half dollar to. Washington Illinois/Lincoln Grant and maybe sesquicentennial I have read, not sure if it is true, that if you leave the coins in this set the reverse will tone more than the obverse. These are starting to show that. I also like this set for the 1994 matte proof nickel. I may send this in to be slabbed .. not sure what else to do with it. There is no slot for it in the Dansco. FYI - the line on the nickel is on the plastic covering.

A tasteful presentation in any case. I like it all! I don't remember that dollar so thanks for sharing.

Yes most of the reverses, especially the nickel get toned if they are left in the package. I think that this is acceptable since it is almost to be expected. My 97 is still sealed in the outer cello so I don't know what it looks like. Most of these sent to top grading services turn out to be MS69 quality, which is nice. I have two of the 1994 and 1 of the 1997 sets with the matte nickels. Those that opened them early and sent in the nickels to be graded without the toning might bring a premium someday for being "white" I suppose. I hope mine tone completely and attractively. I was tempted at one time to open the package and flip them over and put them away again for awhile to get the toning more even on both sides but I have a hard time bringing myself to open original packages. These sets have been selling cheap. With silver moving up, the content of the dollar gets overlooked and the nickel graded fetches a decent amount more. The 97 set lately can be bought for around $150.00 A slabbed 97 in MS69 almost always fetches at least $200.00.

That is a nice looking set! This may sound odd coming from me (Mr. Proof-Set-Cracker), but I would probably want to leave this set intact. I have no place for either coin in any Dansco, so the only reason I would get this set would be for the set.

The two 94 Jefferson nickel matte MS70's I've seen pictures of had no toning on the reverse, but virtually all intact sets on the market today have some form of toning on the reverse. ill be listing a jefferson dollar later today on the auction section, if your looking for one so you dont have to break up the set. - (XoG)

I like this set so much, I found another one on a web store. It was $40.00 delivered, I ordered it last night. I hope it is as nice .. or better then this one.
$40.00 is the cheapest I have seen, since I have been looking at them this past year.

I too have this original set and the 1997 set also, ( I collect proof/mint sets). I also have a few ANACS graded 68 and 69 coins for the 94 set, I too only have the 1 original set from the 1997 coin and currency set, I also fyi, found out the sets came with a star note $2.00 bill, which is obviously a more attractive collectible, imo.
I see the sets being discounted over the years, but still see the nickel bring the premium of all in the set being the key to the entire series.
I would collect every one offered if the price was right, and I would really like to have another 1997 set, if the price was right, I believe the mintage was small for both sets.......IMO, Both are a very nice addition to any collection.

the star note ones go for much higher premiums than the normal sets do, I also saw a binary star note one on ebay go for well over $150 the highest price I've seen go for the 94 set.

I have heard of people having sets with a star note, but have not seen one yet. I think I would not break it open if I had one with a start note.
I ended up finding another 1994 set local, for $32.00, how could I say no. I broke open all three sets and made a deal with a local dealer. He sent in the 3 1994 nickels, he pays for the grading for all three .. for one of the nickels. I get first pick he get's second.
Today I got the matte proof Kennedy in the mail. Now I want to have that one slabbed.
I hope I find a good deal on the 1997 Botanic set .. I really want that 97 nickel.

I have 2 sets but none with a star note. I also paid 2 for $110 at the coin show. You got a real good deal and this is a very nice set. I like what your dealer does wish mine did the same. Hope you get 70s.

Found a 1994 Jefferson Coin and Currency set with a star note for the $2.00 bill, for what I think is a great price, less than $60.00 delivered, I am thrilled, I really do not believe the price decline for the sets.....

i paid about 55 bucks for the star note set I have, I think anywhere between 50 and 60 bucks is a good price to get them at and most I've seen for sale sell in that range

My local coin shop picked up two 94 sets .. with star notes.
He wants $70 each .. so less than $60 sounds like a pretty good price
