I just reported it for using stock photos. Of course, their coin is not genuine either but that is hard to prove with tiny thumbnail pictures.

The fact that he is saying that it looks fake to him and then trying to play it down a little leads me to believe he is trying to cover his butt in case the feds come after him.

sometime a gamble can pay off, you see it happen all the time. biokemist6 if you look all over ebay hundreds of sellers are using stock photos regardless of what ebay rules are. Just in the coin section alone you will see that many

If you are using stock photos, you are just shady IMO.

I can agree to a certain extent on that but if your selling tons of coins by weight (silver) I doubt you want to take 100's of pictures but I stay away from those for the most part as I like to know what I'm getting.

Using stock photos for a pile of generic face value silver bullion is one thing, using a stock photo for a very rare and valuable die variety is another matter entirely. Most would call that fraud...

Obviously the coin is most likely a fake but I doubt the seller has bad intentions, IMO he is just an uninformed person who doesn't know anything about coins.

He also has actual photos of the coin, but they aren't the best close ups.

He knows enough to realize it's fake or most likely fake. I also find it extremely unlikely he wasn't able to get a good picture or scan of the coin and that's the reason why he couldn't first post them. Come on, he has enough transactions to realize how to take a picture and add it to ebay. I think he's was just trying to cover himself when the buyer realizes he bought a fake coin for a fair amount of money.

If you notice, he has now posted a weight of the coin and it's no where near the right weight. I guess maybe he is ignorant of the authenticity or just covering himself.
