Hmmm, if that "97 pounds" refers to net weight of US coin silver (90%) that means the collection contains around 1,273 ounces of silver. At $25 per ounce the melt value would be nearly $32,000. The photos show some silver rounds and ASE coins also (pure silver) so maybe the total is even higher. I guess it would be a steal at the current bid of about $10,100 but the reserve hasn't been met. I wonder where Anthony's Rare Coins has set the reserve?

Jaobler,
I was thinking the same thing. It will be interesting to see this one play out.

This seller has collections like this almost every week up for sale and I have not seen any get sold- I think this is sort of an advertising way to get you to look at his individual coins, etc.
My other point is that the coin folders, books, coin container/holders would be weight also- in his other auctions, the weight of all that fluff IS included, so this is unique in apparently the silver only being counted towards the weight.
The main trouble with these auctions is that there are piles of stuff, with few to no lists or details of anything. He expects someone to drop more than 10 grand on something that the buyer has no idea what he's getting?

It might get a realistic bid if the listing was more specific. Is that 97 troy pounds or avoirdupois pounds? Is that only the silver weight, or does it include the packaging?

Wow! thats a lot of silver. Instant collection to who ever wins it. I will also watch to see how high it goes. If I had that kind of money I might put in a bid.

Its very hard to try and to figure out the numismatic value of a collection like that with only pictures.

It looks like a whole lot of nothing special except for silver weight.

He expects way more than 10 grand and probably way more than melt....I also have never seen one of his auction sell.

It won't sell. None of them do. I estimate $30-35K silver melt, which means he probably has a reserve at 40K.

The auction ended with a final bid of $24,200.00 and the reserve was not met.

I don't know if he is doing this for attention but when I see his name on the auction,I run away! Judging by the low bid on this, I think lots of others are growing tired of the game too.

Not surprised. I think auctions with reserves in general scare people from bidding.

Too much unknown to drop that kind of money. In reality, only serious investors or dealers would spend that much, and there isn't enough of a description to known what your getting. An investor would just as well buy silver bars for that kind of money, less of a premium.
