Terrible tragedy. Listen, don't hope they catch the guy and recover your things, BELIEVE! Believe it WILL happen. I feel for ya man though I've yet to be robbed. I'll keep my eyes open for the coins I don't think they'll make it all the way to NY like that one guy said thieves don't travel.
Keep us posted with any new updates!

That really is lousy. One of the hartbreaks too is knowing that in almost all instances, the crooks know nothing about coins so they will spend them as coins. Many crooks are afraid to try to pawn them or take to a bank or coin store so into pop machines, coin changers, etc. At a flea market by me a dealer had an entire tray of coins stolen. One person kept him busy and another ran off with an entire tray of coins. Yelling stop someone at a flea market is sort of like yelling that at a football game where there is many thousands of people all around. No one knows what your talking about and usually don't care.

fcrazo, You have my deepest condolences. Still, we need to feel sorry for the perp. There is no doubt that he was underprivileged, grew up in an abusive home without any parents, had to walk to school, has never held a job so can't get unemployment, can't buy drugs with food stamps, needs new tires for the bike he stole, has fathered 19 children that he knows of, and never had a stuffed Barney. Obviously, you will be charged with "tempting" the individual by having something of value in his sight. NOT !! I am so tired of hearing these stories and then watching the courts turn them out with a slap on the hand. If we don't make the laws start to have meaning, they will never be a deterrent. You guys may have heard about the kidnapping and subsequent murder of an 11 yr old girl in Maryland back in Dec of 2009. I personally spent over 10 hours walking wooded areas that they suspected the perp might have taken her to. She was finally found and the guy is going through the justice system currently for what good that will do. The kidnapper had previous convictions of breaking and entering, assault, distribution and two sexual assault charges, one for rape. The legal system just kept letting him out. As far as I am concerned, the judges who kept letting him go are the criminals. This guy was a loaded gun and someone should have seen it. An 11 yr old girl had to give her life to put this guy away. No, concern for criminal rights is not being politically correct. It is simply further victimizing the innocent. fcrazo, I truly hope you get back your coins and I am glad that you were not hurt in the process. Sorry for the rant. The forum gods will probably snatch this in a heartbeat but I am so frustrated. Jim

Yeah, way to go Jim. Let's round up all these scumbags and blow their brains out! WooHoo get 'er done!
NOTE: The above state has no relevance to the conversation.
Nothing will ever change. America is too far gone to re-root the justice system. It's fun to dream though. You hear these politicians and pundits talk about restoring America to the way she was 200 years ago and the do nothing.

yes, that's aweful man.
if I were you i'd start open carrying at those flea markets--or, really, wherever. the law is hardly a deterrent anymore.
as far as things being worse than they were in the past...evidence seems to point to the fact that they're about the same. nonetheless, the law doesn't stop those who don't care for the law and never has. the difference now might simply be that fewer people are armed in suburbia, etc.
thievery should be considered punishable by death if it's in the amount you're talking about, bc under our theory you're robbing someone of their money/property, but it's property that you worked for, ie spent your finite life gathering. therefore, to a lesser degree, they are stealing a portion of your life.

Check Craigslist... you will not believe how much stolen stuff we have seen show up there. (Stuff stolen from parties/gym/dorm rooms at college. They have to sell it sometime...Between pawn shops, coin dealers and craigslist you could have a chance.
I would bet that they stole it for money...not for the coins... they will sell them. I hope you get them back, and I am glad no one got hurt.
Take Care

Fcrazo: I feel the same way for your loss... Prayers can ease up the pain in you. One thing is sure, the one who did it will be punished soon.

I have to ask though, what will carrying a firearm really do? Are you willing to actually use it on a thief? and in a crowded area where it's easy to disappear? What would you really do if that happened - make sure you show everyone you have it or fire a warning shot in the air? I'm just curious. My opinion, is to have hidden cameras (emphasis on hidden).

well, I'm not suggesting that you fire it wildly into a crowd if someone makes off with your coins. any person's life is more valuable than that.
but in shops around the city (bad areas) guess how many open carry or concealed carry? most of em. the ones that get robbed are usually not the ones that let everyone in there know they're carrying.
if you were a robber and had your choice, which would you prefer to rob? the guy with a sidearm or the guy that's utterly defenseless?

in any case, I also think there's a good chance you can get at least some of this stuff back.
I've had lots of tools stolen from me over the years and I think everyone here is right--call all the pawn shops, look on craigslist for them, and let coin dealers know as well.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Maybe the thief will break into the wrong house one day and it will all be over for him. Bang!

Sorry to hear this. May they get caught, severely punished and may you retrieve all that is yours. There is a Prayer to St. Anthony for lost items that I have used, it has worked, maybe by sheer coincidence but our family always used it, strong believers or not it still seems to work. Give it a try.

Thanks everyone for the support. It's been a very busy week. Wednesday with the major loss, Thursday club meeting and then my PowerPoint presentation on counterfeits, Friday I had to help make pre-coin show preparations at Live Oak Civic Center in SATX, Saturday was the Alamo Coin Show, and Sunday with storage relating to the show. Luckily deealers were already made aware of my loss.

Sorry to hear that. People like that need to get put in the stocks and have rotten fruit thrown at them.
