I feel these are the real McCoy, simply being that it would not be worth it for anyone to counterfeit junky RCM coins such as a 2010 set. If your were going to produce a fake, it would be something like an 1888 half dollar in EF-40 or an 1892 , large 9 dime, etc. Glenn

I think it's a fake because the mint never issued this this "set". So yeah, it wouldn't be worth it, unless he took $3 worth of currency, added a $2 packing set and sold it for 4x cost. Which is what he's doing - and none of it requires "coin counterfeiting", just re-packaging and rebranding (with someone elses brand).

Just because you have never seen it nor heard of it, doesn't mean the Mint didn't make it and release it.
The Mint does many exclusives through different partners, some in other countries.
From the look of the pictures, the packaging appears to be RCM-produced, and genuine in my opinion.

Ah. Well, there is no mention of that product anywhere ... except from that one ebay seller. Odd, that. You'd think at least one other website would post that.

If you diluted Pepsi and then sold it as Pepsi, don't you think something was amiss?
My point is, that the coins may not be fake, but the package may not be officially released by the mint. It's like those coin displays, "Vanishing Classics" and their ilk. Anyone can put them together.

I'll give you packaging some easily obtained rolls as a set would be easy. But, then why go to the trouble of creating a special counterfeit RCM medallion? There have been special sets produced for shows before. Was this announced?: http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-CNA-Canadi...00_W0QQitemZ180587734225QQcmdZViewItem#ht_500wt_1156 Is it fake?

The RCM has been producing special presentation sets for Federal trade missions to China since the 1970's. Perhaps its one of those.

It's hard to know about them, I suppose. Are they in the Charlton edition with all the commemorative coins?

Perhaps. I would have thought that there would be SOME info, even using google.hk, about them. As far as I'm concerned, they're a HUGE markup on regular coins, even if the coins are genuine, the packaging as a "special set" is not.
