I just went to my local Chase bank and picked up a roll of the new Lincoln Dollars. I didn't take a pic or anything but I figured I would give people the heads up that they are already in some banks (and I think they were officially released just yesterday). I plan on picking out 3-4 nice ones for my collection and spending some of the others and give some to some kids around here. No big deal, with Lincoln being so popular and recognizable I am sure they will mint waaaaay too many of these coins and they will be easy to get, but I just wanted to let people know. I am expecting it to have the highest mintage of the Presidential dollar series because of its proximity to the Lincoln centennial celebration last year. Had they planned it better, so that the Lincoln Presidential dollar had come out last year, it would have most definitely been the highest mintage of the series.

My local bank always had the Presidential dollars to sell on the release date. I went there today to get some and they said they have to order them, and they won't be available until next week. Don't know if it's because they will be popular or what, but its the first time this has happened.

I called U.S. Bank today and they didn't have any and wouldn't order any either. I was told to order them myself from the treasury. So "Spaceace" if you are going to be passing them out you can pass about 4 my way!

A bank I normally get them from at first said that they wouldn't have them ever again, as they changed something. but they called me up and let me know as soon as they were in, so I guess someone ordered them anyway. Another bank said that they had tons, so I grabbed a sealed box. Not sure how long I'll keep it sealed - but it was neat to see.

I know the local bank here won't be ordering them. They are still trying to get rid of the Washingtons they ordered.

This is the mints chance to get the dollar coin out there. Everyone loves Lincoln and his image is very popular and appealing. I suspect the mintage is going to be absolutely huge. I still don't know why more people don't use the gold dollars. Lately I've discovered how useful they are. At work all the vending machines toss out these and SBA's to me everyday. I like them! It keeps me from having to get quarters back. I also like spending them in vending machines, it only takes 2 seconds to drop a couple goldens in. At the end of day I drop all my change in a basket for later inspection. It's been loaded with $1 coins.....makes for a nice little savings account! I can't tell you how many times I've needed some cash and was able to fish out $10+ from it in 30 seconds. LOL Dollar coins are GREAT for commerce.

Quote: I still don't know why more people don't use the gold dollars. Well, we both know it is the paper dollar and the general reluctance to try new things! But I get your point, even with the paper dollar in competition, the dollar coin has many advantages if people would just be more accepting of the change. Yes, pun intended. Deal with it, people!

Even if this coin is popular, it's not going to do anything to stimulate circulation. Also, I don't think the Lincoln dollar is going to have the highest mintage yet. I think it will be inline with the other 2010 issues.

Quote: The dollar coins will circulate if the knuckleheads stop printing one dollar notes! Of course they will. Have done in every country I can think of where they've stopped printing them. But apparently Americans love their dollar bills too much to switch to the coin. Of course, we are all creatures of habit... quit wasting money and just take away the paper option.

I really hope they don't mass mint the Lincoln dollar. It's the only one I grabbed a stock supply of!
