In my opinion If you buy from a good USA seller, one with good feedback. That has a return policy and uses paypal. Has good pictures. You should be okay I would really look close when buying the 1921 and 1928 Peace dollars. But if you follow the above you should be okay. I just finished my Peace dollar Dansco. The last one I needed was the 1921. I ended up buying two different 1921's and sending them both back. They were real, but both had scratches that I could not see in the pictures they provided. If I was going to do that again, for the 1921 and 1928, I would wait for a good deal on a PCGS or NGC slabbed one. To sum it up, I would not worry about buying Peace dollars on ebay, as long as I was okay with sending back what I don't like and losing the shipping cost.

Agree with Goldrush. And always make sure there is a return policy ! ebay has refunded almost $2000 to me for counterfeit coins, so I have faith in the buyer protection program.

Quote: what is the likelyhood that it's a fake? The majority of the time you can assume it's real unless it's a key date. If you learn more about authenticating and learning about Peace dollars not all of the usual precautions are always necessary.

yeah it's my new favorite.
it says on wikipedia there were about 300,000 minted in 64 and then melted down, and that some people have claimed to have kept some after the melting.
anyone ever heard of anyone who had a 64?

The current existence of a 1964-D Peace dollar has never been confirmed. Plenty of people claim to have one but no one ever seems to actually present one

That could be because of the way the government handled the 1933 $20 coin where it seems to be policy to steal (repossess) any that surface.

VERY LIKELY! BEWARE OF DISHONEST SELLERS AND PCGS. I saw an altered 1921 Dollar and it was in a strange "PCGS" Slab. Needless to say, I didn't bid. I say get one from a dealer that is a U.S. Citizen.

Unless it is a key date you should be okay. Nobody is going to try and fake a 1922 dollar unless they are practicing for the real thing.
