A Decent strike and originality. Care to guess the grade?

CCya, you have a fabulous collection. We always see something special when you put up a post. Thanks for sharing!

You have a terrific coin there! Details on the eagle head and talons and on the arrow feathers are a bit soft which I think rules out a proof strike (those are pretty darn rare for 1857 anyway!). The toning is fully original. There might be a hint of rub in the reverse field above the eagle but the coin really looks mint state. The toning makes the AU-vs-MS call more difficult.

Grade would be limited by the minor strike weakness and some light hairlines in the right obverse field and near the eagle wings. My guess would be MS-63 with a shot at MS-64. Just beautiful.

This is a very tough coin to grade in my opinion. It suffers from a weak strike on the reverse - especially the left side of the eagle's wing, the lower portion of the eagle (especially the left side). On the obverse, the date is very weak but yet Lady Liberty and the Denticles (sounds like a band, doesn't it?) is just beautiful.

If the obverse wasn't so strong in places, I would think the reverse had some wear on it - but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I honestly don't know what to make of it...

That is a great looking coin! My initial guess was MS-62, mainly because I'm having a difficult time seeing luster in the fields. However this may just be the picture, so it could go up to 64.

I also happen to have an 1857 half in my type collection for which to compare..weaker than yours in grade, though the strike on the reverse eagle of mine appears to be a bit stronger. It also had some interesting clash marks and what appears to be die rust. ANACS had it at 58 problem free.

I'm going to guess AU-50. Nice coin! Lots of lustre.
