gusp Valued Member United States 288 Posts	Posted 08/27/2006 9:55 pm I have (25+ Yrs) a 1942D quarter in Gem VEDS. Mate or close. Inside the loop of the two there is a bit of extra metal imprinted from the initial die hubbing. It appears to be the upper inner left serif of a roman numeral one. It is possible that it is only a 2/2. The curvature does not seem to match that of a 2 but it is possible a different 2 was used on this die. The inside two lies low next to the planchet. It is NOT Machine Doubling. Have shown to a handful of dealers and they wonder also. We are not sure if it is a two over a two or a one. This doubling probably did mot live long as it would probably wear down and disappear. Anyone got one or maybe seen a similar piece? Ideas, thoughts? Do not have photo capability. LMK Thanx...Gusp.
