I'm VERY interested to note that the bottom of the "R" in PLURIBUS does NOT have the usual telltale hole in it. Interesting!

It looks like a Henning Nickel. They were counterfeited nickels that usually has a Mark on the are in PLURIBUS. But yours doesn't show this? Here are images: The good new is that this coin has a lot of demand. Interesting find. Although it may NOT be silver.

The looped "R" (or lack of) made me wonder, too.

Any info on the 1939's he counterfeited? In the same batch, I got 12 1939 nickels. Also got 96 nickels from the 1940's.

dumprat .... your 44 is the same as mine. No hole in the are leg. I think I found mine in around 1983 in a common change hoard or a roll search.

Very nice find. Henning claimed to have made 6 different reverse dies. I have (39) 1944 no p Hennings so far and about half have the hole in the are and half do not. So I don't see where one is any more scarce than the other. Your coin does have a die marker I have seen on some of the Hennings with no hole in the R. Look on the reverse above Monticello to the left of the dome and you will see a small dot in the field. When searching other dates for Hennings this is a marker I use besides looking at the R. Again, nice find.
