coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 12/01/2010 8:49 pm The mark on the 8 is coin wrapper damage. Note how it follows the rim? The counter mark was done with a punch for what ever reason. Some do collect these, but to me they are a damaged coin. Report this Post to the Staff

coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 12/01/2010 11:37 pm In general the vast majority of counterstamps cannot possibly be traced to a purpose or origin. They do have some marketable value as a curiosity, but they are generally not very valuable. The mark on the 8 of the date is the result of a coin counting and wrapping machine. The coin was at the end of a roll when the crimping mechanism grabbed the roll and spun it - this commonly affects the last digit of the date. Report this Post to the Staff
