I could just be cleaned badly.

I wouldn't bid on this coin without first being able to see the edges. From the photos, it looks like the coin could have been in some sort of holder at one time. It may very well be just the photos. I'm 48, and my eyes don't see things as well as they once did. The coin has some "wrinkles" in it. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't necessarily assume it's fake, but it does look a little funny. Maybe a late die stage? Or roman just has me paranoid. Is the mushy bulge a die clash? Looks like Lincoln's profile on the reverse.

The ghost image of the bust on the reverse is a form of die wear, typically seen on 1920s and 30s wheaties. It is dark and a bit glossy, it may have had an old cleaning and retoned with a darkening agent. There is also a spot of corrosion under the right wheat ear.

Agree with Biokemist. Everything checks out for the coin being genuine (not saying it definitely is, but it's also not definitely fake). It looks "monkeyed around" with. It does not look original for the grade.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I have a feeling that this one is a cast coin... liberty lettering looks ugly and reverse full of abnormality.. so ,i'd better pass on this one

Looks like someone polished it many years ago and the surface retoned leading to an unnatural appearance.
Could also be a good Chinese replica probably safest to stay away from it...

Someone paid 90$ for it . Its christmas time. I suspect people are buying gifts for others. "Hey honey should would like a 31-s to fill the spot in my book " Unsuspecting wife goes online and says i'll spend a 100$ let me bid on one . Sure enough gets what they pay for.

Agree with coppercoins and Biokemist...looks real but not original...a lot of the older cents have some pretty ugly letters....and there was a return policy. Also can see coppertop5150's scenario taking place too...just went through that with my daughter buying an antique tractor toy for her boyfriend...she wanted to win no matter the cost until I gave her a little lecture on value and research.

I am about 95% the coin is genuine and is not a fake. It's just been played around with a little more than it should have been.
