So what are the chances of finding double die pennies in rolls? I mean, are they even worth searching for? I am all new to coin collecting and I would love to find some double dies.
Rest in Peace

There are still lots of DDOs & DDRs to be found. Put in the time like many on this forum do and you will find them. Don't expect to get rich unless you find that really rare item. There are also WAMs, RPMs & RDVs to look for. Good luck.

Hi CHRISM420. Welcome to the forum!

I suggest that you go to your library and browse through several books before you spend any money. Check out LOOKING THROUGH LINCOLN CENTS:Chronology of a Series by Charles D. Daughtrey, who is also a fellow member.
STRIKE IT RICH With Pocket Change By Brian Allen & Ken Potter, I think they are also members but I'm not certain.
CHERRYPICKERS- I don't have that book in front of me at the moment so I can't give you the author's name.

Warning: coin collecting is addictive and LOTSA FUN! :)

Oh yeah. Also check out this site: COPPERCOINS.COM. It is a must to Lincoln Cent varieties and errors. :)

Even with knowledge, don't expect to find a lot of them. But knowing what years and mints will only show what is known. Best to become familiar with the different types of doubling is present on coins that you are looking for. You may find one on a coin that is not known yet and be a new discovery. Such as like the one I found the other day.

Most of the times new discoveries are found on unknown examples.

This one was sold to me on ebay as a RPM. When I received the coin it wasn't a RPM that he had listed it was:

Looks at a coin show I discovered this new DDO in dealers stock:

Knowing what to look for and applying that information to every year may help you to find what to look for and do this checking each coin to see if it is there under you scope/loupe/glass.

I have been lucky enough to find 7 confirmed doubled dies since January 1 of this year. 1 1942-d DDO, 1 1956-d DDO#6 (Doubled eye), 1 1968-d DDR, 1 1972 DDO #3, 1 1972 DDO #8 and 2 1972-d DDO#1's. They are definitely out there, but take good optics and lots of searching to find. For me, nothing beats the thrill of finding one for face value and each find increases my motivation to continue the hunt!

Chris - Learning doubled dies and finding them can take some patience and time, but they are out there to be found. Best thing to do, however, is buy ONE decent doubled die so you will have something that's a sure fire doubled die to study against all the other non-collectible forms of doubling you are sure to encounter. Once you see the real deal next to all the junk, you'll understand a lot more about the difference and why the junk is worthless and why doubled dies are truly appreciated and valuable. I might suggest one of the more minor 1972 doubled dies or a 1995 doubled die. In most cases any of these can be had for well under $50, and they are very nice doubled dies.
