Harshly cleaned I know. Even I can tell that as a new guy but the photo didn't look anything like this on ebay. The reason I got it was it is a CC and those are usually at a premium. Anyway, would appreciate your opinions onner. Thanks and was looking at the 7 in the date. Does it look normal? Sidekick-CA

AU55 cleaned. The 7 looks like it may be doubled at the top. There are many VAMS for the 1878 so it is more likely than not that it is common. Try Vamworld, if you have the time and patience to attribute it. I'm new here too!

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. Looks like the concensus is AU53-AU55 cleaned. I don't feel so bad now. The seller was offering it as an XF.

You certainly do have a sharp eye Aladinslamp! Thanks for pointing this out. I went to vamworld but even after comparing, the only thing I could pick up on with my untrained eye was the dot inside of the first C. Couldn't pick up on the doubled cotton leaves and bolls. Ditto for the doubled eyelash it lists. It also mentioned die chips in the bottom of the first 8. Here's a closeup What do you think? It also mentioned it had an R4 rarity. Will this enhance the value or is this just something a few VAM collectors would be concerned with?

PS: That 7 still looks weird to me.

the 7 has a PMD mark on it thats why its funny looking, Vamworld only show the main points to attribute and lock a VAM in.., I am sure that if you look closely you may find other cool things on the coin...

One final question. Would you recommend I submit to a TPG since it is a CC VAM or save my money?

Excluding bullion value, harsh cleaning usually cuts the value of a coin in half.
Hence, it may be worth more or less than an EF depending on the price difference in EF v/ AU grades.
