Please give your opinion as to whether or not the D mint mark is a DDO or Machine Doubling.

Any opinions on the current would also be welcome.

thanks

I don't see anything out of the norm on the mint mark.Mint marks were hand punched until 1990 so there is a possibility of an RPM but your coin isn't an RPM.http://coppercoins.com/diesearch.ph...int=d&page=0

I am always still learning and somewhat new to these DDO and RPM type coins.

So I put a side by side photo of my mint mark (on the left) to the URL on coppercoins.com suggested by John1.

Does not my mint mark look very similar to the example here on coppercoins?

What would my coin be classified as then if it is not this coin?

I am still confused which is normal for me.

Thanks

It is difficult to say for sure from the photo but it looks like the plating is split along the front of the D making it look like a doubling or RPM.

I think you are putting too much emphasis on the split plating in front of the mintmark, which just happens to appear on the coppercoins listing as well.

The RPM in the listing is defined on the left side of the mintmark, especially on the lower leftof the base. You can see the doubling of the vertical bar, which I do not see on your coin.

Looks like a normal mint mark from what I can see. The upper serif has a lot of glare, can you turn the coin 90 degrees or 180 degrees? That might let the light fall over the area in question.

A D/D is an RPM - not a DDO. A doubled die ( DDO or DDR) happens when the die is created using a hub and a lot of pressure. A repunched mintmark (RPM) happens when the mintmark is added to the finished die by hand, and the punch slips or is hit a second time out of perfect alignment with the first punching. Their causes and results are very different from one another - not a good idea to use the terms interchangeably.
