Interested in the communities opinion on whether or not that green CAC oval means anything to you as you price/value slabbed coins.

I have several of my silver classic commemorative with CAC stickers ...... and wish to sell some duplicates ....... would the CAC green beanie mean anything to you?

Opinions please.

Not to me.It's just another professional grading company grading a grading company. Unless of coarse you put more faith in CAC then the slab the coin is in,PCGS,NGC,Etc. IMHO.

What John1 said.

It depends on the coin....if it is a $1K(-) coin, it is rather meaningless, but on a $10k(+), it would mean a great deal......Believe it or not, that little green sticker adds value to certain coins (sometimes a lot).

Realistically though, it amounts to little more than a second opinion (of agreement on grading), which is not really necessary if you have faith in the TPG that holdered it in the first place....Look at it as an unnecessary insurance policy that the TPG got it right the first time.

TPGs have a perceived pecking order value wise....PCGS coins are valued higher than ICG coins.....CAC trumps all of them (when you get into the realm of high value coin grading).

Not to me but CAC coins generally bring a sight premium (depending on the coin as Zeewol mentioned) when sold.

There is a market for CAC run by John Albanese. He buys CAC coins and from what I understand establishes bid prices for CAC coins on CCE (Certified Coin Exchange). I think a lot of it boils down to whether you can view the coin "in-hand" or are buying expensive coins from photos, etc.

CAC green stickers coins that are A or B for the grade. C coins (low end) of course do not sticker. As an example, Larry Shapiro started sending most of his Morgans/Peace to CAC after buyers balked at spending money on non-CAC pieces. The market is there and as zeewool stated, on high-end pieces it definitely means something to many buyers.

Plus CAC just sent me a nice Christmas present!

I also got that give, bherring! That was very nice of them.

I'm also on the CAC bandwagon but it's not for everyone or every coin. I think if the coin is worth at least several hundred dollars it's at least a candidate to be sent in. John is a very nice guy and is willing to talk about his practice and how/why certain coins don't sticker.

At worst, the sticker does nothing for the value and you spent $10 (plus shipping) to get that opinion. On the plus side, you might attract more attention/buyers to your coin when it comes time to sell and that can improve what you get for the coin.

Has anyone seen a SEGS slab with a CAC sticker? I think that may bring a premium for the rarity value.

For me yes, CAC does offer value. I realize it's only a second opinion but sort of like having surgery it's nice to have a second opinion before going under the knife (of course coin opinions and surgery are two entirely different things but you get the idea). I don't have a membership with CAC but I think they charge $10 for most coins if it stickers. There is no charge to individual collectors if a coin doesn't sticker. I'm not 100% certain about this but that is what I've heard.

I've read and a small sample that I've looked at proves it, that CAC coins definitely bring more money than non CAC coins of the same grade. More than enough to make up for the $10 cost plus a couple bucks of shipping. Also, I think it reasures your eye for grading when coins that you buy end up with a CAC sticker. Just my opinion.

Why do you need a second opinion? The TPG itself is already the second opinion, the first is your own. If you're not convinced it deserves the claimed grade, what does the sticker help?

Look, I have nothing against TPGs, I think they offer a great service, not the least of which is authentication, especially when it comes to highly counterfeit coins. But I just can't see why someone would spend more for a stickered coin. I certainly wouldn't.

Guess I might send some of my coins in to see if I can get a jelly bean on them.
